Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

Well, this is more like it. Today, Nonito Donaire posted on his facebook that Bob Arum is in the process of finalizing a bout between him and 118 pound titlist Fernando Montiel in November. Montiel had a bout scheduled for next month against Rafael Concepcion, but it seems that the bout may be off. This could be the challenge that Donaire has been looking for. Montiel was on the fringes of the pound for pound top 10 for a while, but had fallen off some before his stunning upset of Hozumi Hasegawa. However, even a faded Montiel would easily be among Donaire's toughest two fights of his career, which may help justify his absurd #4 position on the Ring's pound for pound list.

It's really insane

And goes some way towards discrediting the Ring’s rankings.

But it also goes to show that the ratings probably aren't influenced much by GBP

If they were going to overrate someone, it probably wouldn’t be a Top Rank fighter.

I know the Ring is a big deal historically and all, but their rankings are absolutely no better than any number of rankings you can get now. I’m not saying they’re bad, but they have plenty of puzzlers just like anyone else might. I remember they had Sergio Medina ranked, like, No. 4 at 122 before his “fight” with JuanMa Lopez, which I found absolutely incredible given that Medina had never beaten anyone.

That No.4

ranking is quite absurd i admit, and i am a fan of Donaire. They must be ranking him on potential seen as he only has one big name win on his record, which is unusual for The Ring as they seem to rank fighters on achievements not on how impressive they look.
If Donaire was a GBP fighter??Now that would be scandalous! :)
