Mayweather-Pacquiao: Decision Made Tonight

We'll find out late tonight if Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting Manny Pacquiao in November. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Call it boxing's version of The Decision. Fittingly, it won't be in prime time. Or on television.

Tonight (well, tomorrow morning, technically) at 3am EDT, toprank.com will allow fans the world over to listen in on a conference call where we'll find out if Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have come to terms for a November 13 mega-fight.

My gut feeling is that since Top Rank is planning this by themselves, they don't expect Mayweather to agree, and they've probably finalized whatever the backup plan is or would be. That's just speculation on my part, but I would guess if Top Rank believed they had a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, this would be much bigger than a 3am web site conference call.

Stupidly, we'll be up and will bring whatever the news is to you at that time. You know what, no.

On Friday Night Fights, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com said it "doesn't look like" we'll have a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. After midnight tonight, they no longer will negotiate exclusively with Mayweather, Rafael says. What's interesting there is that it's been reported that Michael Koncz has already spoken with Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

For this evening, make sure you join us for live coverage of Friday Night Fights, featuring the ring return of Zab Judah, and ShoBox.

3 am here = 3 pm in Manila

The only optimism I have is that they may be targeting the decision toward the Phillipino market. If not, it could just be an opportunity for Manny to talk some smack at Floyd’s expense. You’re a trooper for staying up so long.

It’s just what matches up to midnight at Floyd’s house. Or the strip club he’s at.

I realize now that sounds like I’m bashing Floyd. I’m not. If I had his money I’d buy and live in a strip club.

It’s pretty amazing how little the media cares now about the negotiations surrpounding Pacman and PBF. I mean, I’ve known they are “negotiating” again because I follow you guys and I pay attention to boxing. But unlike the first go round between these two, no one is following this round. These two took something that could have been so huge, and killed it. If made it will still be popular, but I think people have moved on and it’ll never be as big as it could have been.

Sad.

I did a google search for news and was surprised to see many articles and takes on the negotiations up to this point.

This will be a lot like “The Decision.” These egomaniacs will decide to take the easy way out, damage the sport and do irreparable harm to their own reputations.

I will be shocked— SHOCKED!!— if this match is made. As far as I’m concerned these guys are already retired.

The original disastrous negotiations took away some of my enthusiasm for boxing, which I haven’t fully bounced back from… and the idea that Margarito might cash in on all of this just adds to the sour taste of the situation. This is a real low point for me as a fan, and that’s saying something after all these years following this sport.

Arum's plan from the begining....

From what Im hearing, they’re still at odds overs the blood testing. Mayweather wants random testing available up until the fight like the Mosley fight. And Pacquaio wants a 14 day cut off.
Now if my memory serves me right, I remember Mayweather saying after the first negotiations broke down and after he beat Mosley that there would be no more cut offs, just random testing.
Now if I know this information, just being a fan, Im sure Pacquaio and Arum know it as well.
My question now becomes why didn’t Pacquiao accept the 14 day cut off the first time?
What changed from January til now?

I think Pacquaio and Arum should just accept the random testing up until the fight.
Its very likely that they wont even get tested that close to the fight as was the case with Mosley.

They said the only way that they would test that close to the fight is if they were highly suspicious of a certain fighter or something questionable was found in they’re system.

I hope Arum releases the full contract to the public.

It's so obvious

that Pac never agreed to the drug testing, otherwise Arum would have been crowing about it all week when he was talking trash. Instead he mentioned no specifics. I’m a fan of both guys, but it’s hard to believe at this point that Manny’s not dirty.

by Tysox88 on Jul 17, 2010 4:08 AM EDT reply actions

There's a nondisclosure agreement

Neither of them is allowed to talk terms publicly.

Okay, that’s enough of both of these guys. This fight will never happen so really I don’t care what either of them do. The significant part of both of their careers is over. It’s hard to know which side to despise more. Mayweather is a pretty loathsome character but I think Bob Arum has him beat.

This makes me sad

But Pac – Cotto II is still something I will enjoy. I may defect to MMA or something, if Pac – Margarito is made!
