Is Vitali at least contracting a respiratory disease to keep this one even?

by El Destruyo on Jul 29, 2010 4:22 PM EDT reply actions

I always seem to just be getting on here

when one of these HW “explosions” are announced.

The headline says it all: Snore.

Good post, El Destruyo :)

What, was Bonecrusher Smith unavailable?

by SilverLaker on Jul 29, 2010 5:16 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Bonecrusher can't take this fight

they asked him, but he would lose his social security benefits so he had to turn the opportunity down. tragic, really.

briggs is going to win this one..

kidding. amazing undeserving title shot here but if he doesn’t have an asthma attack early and if his chin holds up he poses some problems for vit. i like how his power and size matches up.

In that case, why not Audley Harrison?

if audley had any resemblance of a heart or desire to actually fight he has the natural gifts to win as well.

I'm not sure Audley Harrison is any better than Shannon Briggs

They both have questionable chins. They both throw 20 punches a round. They both have game changing power. At least Audley can move his feet from time to time.

Is this the same Shannon Briggs that Lennox Lewis schooled before he had grey hair in his chin and while in his prime 10 years ago?

Well hey, in Klitscho’s defense, he did call out David Haye(who supposed to be a dangerous guy) numerous times to no avail.

Well Briggs gets a million dollar payday for being willing to travel to Germany…

Valuev?

Thompson? Hell, even waiting a week to announce and taking the new Euro champ (Dimitrenko) would be better than Briggs.

I don't think he's really available

He’s recovering from hand surgery, and I’m sure Universum wants to take it easy with him for another year or two anyway.

I’m happy that Briggs is getting this fight instead of Valuev.

BRIGGS CHANCES

Briggs can punch but I do not exepct a miracle in this fight. Klitschko should have an easy night and a short night. Briggs will get a good pay day probably his last as he needs to retire before getting hurt. I like Briggs but his chances are slim to none. I had rather see Shannon against David Haye.

In other news, I just read that the other Klitschko brother will be rematching against Sam Peters. Double Yawn.

It'll be interesting to see

How much Briggs has ‘improved’ since his loss to Lewis….. twelve years ago.

by Phill on Jul 30, 2010 7:08 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Completely different fighter

His chin has improved, and he has more one-punch power, but he can no longer put punches together, and his stamina is among the worst in the sport because on top of being asthmatic, he’s now musclebound as well.

Question!

I’m newish to boxing and im kinda confused about the hate for the Klitschko brothers, do they duck opponents or are they just better then everyone else? or is it something entirely different?

One day, this will be my world...

by Amigop on Jul 30, 2010 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

I don't think we hate the Klitschko brothers

And to their credit, they’ve been trying to make fights with the best guys. Wlad really has been clearing out the division, just he’s very boring to watch ever since switching to Emmanuel Steward as a trainer. He used to be a great offensive fighter, now he’s safety-first, hiding behind that jab until his opponent no longer has the will to fight. Vitali’s competition has been a bit lighter than Wlad’s, but still pretty good, but his last two fights he probably could have picked tougher guys to face than who he’s actually faced. I don’t think most people hate them though, they’re just not as popular as they probably should be.

I wrote “snore” up top mostly because I find Briggs to be incredibly boring and somewhat undeserving. He seems like a nice guy in real life, but Briggs-Ibragimov was among the worst fights I’ve ever seen, and Briggs-Lyakhovich probably would have been THE worst fight I’d ever seen if not for the spectacular last minute come from behind knockout by Briggs.

I don't hate the Klitschko brothers.

But I do utterly loathe Vitali’s matchmaking since returning. No need to put the “somewhat” before undeserving when talking about Briggs and Kevin Johnson, and we all know Gomez was but a mandatory, Arreola but an overweight inchoate piece of hype with no chance of even getting near Vitali. Mention of the very name Sosnoswski turns me green and causes the shirt to rip off my back.

Wlad has taken some interesting fights, even though his style and size have made them boring.

Vitali’s still living off the good grace of the Lennox Lewis fight, and the comparison in action rate to his brother since Wlad-Sanders.

Amigo.. Hello mate.

There are plenty of mixed views on them. They’re undoubtedly talented, but for me, it’s almost like they’re the best of a current crop of heayweights who fail to capture the attention of those other than boxing fans. Everyone knew Tyson, Holmes, Holyfield etc, but the Klits are not really globally recognised. Like I said earlier, Briggs fought Lewis over a decade ago, now he’s fighting one of the top men once again. For me, (and I can’t speak for the other lads on here) that says it all. The HW division has lost it’s appeal.
