Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

"I don't want to discuss anything about [the meeting with Jerry Jones] until after the Margarito thing in California. And then we'll announce the venue and the press conference schedule. I don't want to disrespect anybody or anything. California is going to decide on Wednesday and then whichever way California decides, various state commissions will decide whichever way they think is best."

We’ll see if they curried favor with right people. Hopefully not…. I know the fight is happening but I’d rather them have to struggle to get it done.

The fight will definitely happen.

California will have it’s day in the sun on Wednesday Then, after completely botching the entire ‘wrap’ issue, they will rule on re-licensing Margarito. It is just as likely, given how badly they handled 9literally) the wraps, they will cover their behinds and deny the license.

But it won’t matter. Once they rule, other states are absolutely free to make their own decision. Washington has already agreed to license Margarito and so will others. Wednesday will be a show …. with some but little impact.

Expect to see these two in the ring.

I'm not sure California has sufficient grounds to continue to deny Margarito a license

Nor do I

Unless they continue to rule on ‘strict liability’….holding Margarito responsible for Capitello… they shouldn’t continue to deny his re-licensing.

That doesn’t mean they won’t however. Nor does it mean that Petrocelli won’t sue them later for screwing up the ‘investigation’ royally in the first place.

Then Margarito has money fights coming to him and Pacquiao might retire into politics. I mean if people are worried about this getting in the way of Pacquiao-Mayweather, it’s not like that fight’s gotten any closer in the last year. Honestly if Margarito beats Pacquiao, everyone involved in not making Pacquiao-Mayweather sort of has it coming.

I am of the opinion that if Margarito wins

Arum will immediately set up a fight with Cotto…..for huge money.

Manny on the other can do whatever he sees fit. He will have lost very little. Margarito is a big welterweight; one of the biggest. He terrorized the division; almost certainly if not definitely scaring Floyd off the stage years ago.

As for redemption, those who have condemned him and cast aspersions on all of his previous fights will continue to grasp and struggle to explain the flaw in their speculation: Margarito beat Cotto, Cintron, and many others in Las Vegas where trainers are not allowed to bring their own wraps.

Nevada provides the wraps.

I would actually expect Bob Arum to want to go to Pacquiao-Margarito II if Manny wanted to, were Manny to lose. That’s bigger money than a Cotto rematch for Margarito. But if Manny opted to not go that route, or to retire, or whatever, then yeah, the Cotto rematch would be the way to go, if Cotto beats Chavez. Arum has his ducks in a row here in a big way.

If Manny beats Margarito, Manny-Floyd talks resume, maybe this time with easier negotiations.

If Margarito beats Manny, there’s a rematch there for big money.

If no rematch, Margarito-Cotto II makes sense, and is even bigger if Cotto hands Chavez his first loss. Most of us don’t have any great love of Junior Chavez and will largely just shrug off Cotto beating him as a “no duh” kind of thing, but he is very popular with the Mexican fans, and Margarito going back at Cotto is big enough to the Mexican and Puerto Rican audiences alone, plus you could add in that Cotto just knocked off a rising Mexican star as more marketing stuff.

And shit if Chavez beats Cotto, then they just created a new genuine star in Chavez. Margarito (were he to beat Manny) could call out Floyd and Floyd would actually look like a coward if he didn’t fight him.

Arum makes lots of money no matter how this all plays out, basically. It is, like it or not, really good promoting given that they can’t get Floyd and Manny in the ring no matter how hard everyone tries right now.

Agree

But i KNOW Jr. Will Beat Cotto. Cotto got wobbled by One leg foreman if Jr. Catches Cotto like that he will finish Him. I know Alot of People on BLH will Disagree and have no faith in the Tomato Fighting Jr. LOL. He Will Suprise Everyone on DEC 4th

And I forgot to add in that Pacquiao-Cotto II would be an option if they both win and Floyd still “takes time off” afterward. I know a lot of people aren’t interested in that fight, but I’ll admit I have a strange curiosity. Just one of those things. Part of it is Cotto having a real trainer now.

As much as I thought otherwise..

I have to admit to some measure of curiosity as to whether Cotto, after the Margarito loss with his trainer of many years,Uncle Evangelista, and then his mistakenly using Joe Santiago and getting beaten badly by Pacquiao, might be able to return close to form under a real trainer, Manny Steward.

I know he has sustained a lot of beatings, taken way too many punches and probably has a lowered resistance … but a fully determined, properly trained Miguel Cotto is not someone to totally dismiss.

Frankly, I'm loving it.

And think Arum is brilliant. He wins no matter who loses …. and so do we.

Every one of your scenarios is highly plausible. And virtually all of them are desirable.
