Mandatory Eight Count: "I Humbly Regret That I Must Fight Audley Harrison..."
Talks between David Haye and Audley Harrison gather pace (ESPN UK)
Shockingly, David Haye "missed" the chance to fight the Klitschko brothers this year, and shockingly, it looks like he *will* be fighting Audley Harrison instead. Haye had in recent times expressed his total disinterest in fighting Harrison, doing a, "Well, that fight's not really what I want to do," routine, which I suppose he'll counter with, "Who else was I going to fight? Audley Harrison has a big mouth and I'll shut it up!" David Haye basically has arguments with himself in the press. Hilariously, promoter Barry Hearn suggests that Harrison is a bigger draw than Haye -- "in his opinion" -- because he talks a lot and never delivers. Yes, seriously.
When parasites attack: Bloodsucking leeches may drain Sad Chad Dawson dry (Examiner)
Michael Marley of the Examiner has a lot of quotes from Chad Dawson's estranged manager, Mike Criscio. The two haven't spoken since May, Criscio says, and he also believes Dawson is being bled dry by "wrong crowd" types who tend to latch on to successful fighters. Dawson and promoter Gary Shaw have not responded.
Ishe Smith Responds To Criscio Over Chad Dawson Jabs (BoxingScene.com)
Ishe Smith, however, has responded to what he can. Criscio also said that Dawson's sparring was a waste of time, naming Ishe Smith in particular, and that Chad was only in camp for four weeks. Smith says Chad was in camp for two months and that his sparring was great, that Dawson worked hard, and simply had an off-night against Pascal.
Dan Goossen says only way to call Toney/Couture ‘boxing vs. MMA’ is if Randy boxes Toney in second match (Fight Opinion)
I was going to link this rather absurd Dan Goossen video the other day, but I didn't. Zach Arnold went to the trouble of transcribing the key parts -- well, except the part where Goossen says you hit the ball in lacrosse. Goossen suggests that no matter what happens at UFC 118, Couture should fight Toney under boxing rules after. This is, of course, silly for any number of reasons. First of all, Toney went to UFC and asked for a fight. Toney accepted Couture as an opponent. Couture has never said he's a good boxer. Toney, however, has said his boxing skills make him superior as a fighter to Couture. Fine, we'll find out.
A lot of this is that Dan Goossen knows once this is over, if Toney is embarrassed by Couture, he's going to have to figure out some way to market a 41-year-old heavyweight who hasn't had a major boxing fight in almost four years. Toney went to UFC and all but begged, which in Toneyland means insulting everyone until they give in. Now we're 10 days away from seeing him in the Octagon. If he's lucky, the publicity will result in him getting one more major fight in boxing, jolting a boxing career that was on life support before this all started.

Down in Monroe, Louisiana, they're excited about tonight's Cuban showcase on ESPN2. Sometimes it's nice to think locally with these cards.
Ten years after Lewis debacle, Grant in mix for another big fight (Sports Illustrated)
Lyle Fitzsimmons' column is a good one, and almost had me thinking of Adamek-Grant as more than a glorified sparring session for Adamek. On paper, that's all it is. Hopefully for those that order the PPV Saturday, it turns out to be more than that.
Marco Huck Pursues 11th Straight Win Against Matt Godfrey (FanHouse)
Marco Huck has become one of the most consistently entertaining fighters to watch in the entire sport. This Saturday he takes on Matt Godfrey. Hopefully we'll get Cunningham-Huck II sometime next year.
Erik Morales speaks (fightnews.com)
Some photos from Morales' Los Angeles presser for his Sept. 11 fight against Willie Limond, plus a couple of stock quotes about how he's going to be faster and stronger. Also, all great fighters achieved 50 career wins, so that's what he's going for against Limond. And if all this wasn't enough to make you a bit sad, guess what? They'll both be forking over money to the WBC to fight for a "Diamond belt," which was supposedly invented to serve as a "superfight title."

With Grant back in the "MIX," Briggs fighting KLIT, and Maurice Harris calling out the Klits,
boxing (or at lkeast the heavies) is badly in need of a PED.
Pray for Nick Charles
I was thinking about it after, and if Haye fights Harrison as expected, that means the big three in the division are fighting guys you can easily argue should not be ranked in the top ten of the division, and the only one who even has an argument to be top ten is Sam Peter. Plus, Adamek is fighting an old Grant who hasn’t done anything in a decade, and Povetkin is turning down huge paydays to fight unlicensed, shot Bruce Seldon in Nowhere, PA. What the hell are these people doing?

They’d be better off organizing a Mediocre Six heavyweights tournament, starring Harrison, Grant, Briggs, Holyfield, Rahman, and Tua. People who think they like boxing would pay to watch these now-meaningless names go at each other, while champions would have to actually fight each other, now that there really is no one left to fight.

They’d be better off organizing a Mediocre Six heavyweights tournament, starring Harrison, Grant, Briggs, Holyfield, Rahman, and Tua.
With all the training injuries, flu bugs, asthma, pay disputes and promotional difficulties, Holyfield would be 52 years old by the time it was completed.

The goal of this tournament isn’t entertainment; the goal is to retire every single fighter in it.

There is no retiring Evander Holyfield. Or Rahman, I suspect.

Hmm. We could also stage these fights in structurally unsound arenas/clubs….

YES !!!
Retreads fighting safe fighters for cash !!! Boxing is about done as far as the heavies go !!! The only fight that would revive interest in the Heavyweights is if the Klitchko Bros fought each other !!! AND that will never happen !!!

Heavyweight boxing is flat dead in America. Or at least in a completely vegetative state. I mean there is no getting around it. Either Klitschko against Haye (ha) would be massive in Europe, and the Klitschkos can sell out against retreads and obvious mismatches all day in Germany, but it’s dead in America. D-e-a-d dead.

Hilariously, promoter Barry Hearn suggests that Harrison is a bigger draw than Haye — “in his opinion” — because he talks a lot and never delivers. Yes, seriously.
On first read, I wasn’t sure whether the “he” was intended to refer to Haye or Harrison. I was thinking to myself, “What? British fans like boxers who talk a lot and never deliver?”
But then I got it and it was funny.
Michael Marley has apoint. Dawson has surrouinded himsel with one of the very worse entourages in boxing.
Pray for Nick Charles
I thought Dawson was supposed to be a family man/homebody who wouldn’t be vulnerable to this kind of stuff.
I can’t remember where I read the line first (maybe Cruelest Sport), but I’m gonna steal it. I think HBO believes Chad Dawson is the only fighter in the world who has a family.

It's going to be a bad couple of weeks for Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
I realize he’s the trainer and all, but he can’t REALLY think Grant is a top 5 heavyweight, can he?

ok so Haye's got Audley -
which is obviously somewhat of a downer .
If he doesn’t fight either Klit’s the fight after I may seriously start to go off him .
Klit(s) / Haye is the ONLY fight at Heavy that I really want to see .
I will tune into the Haye / Audley scrap and can’t wait to see the promotion – " Battle of the Blabbers " ? , "Moment of Motor Mouth Mayhem " ? " Clash of the Claptraps" ? “War of Words” ? " Battle of Bullshit" ? " Talk Time "? " Chamionship of the Chops" ? Jesus , it’s endless .
I will give the pre-fight press conference a miss though – could think of a better way to spend eight hours than listen to those pair .

I like Haye
as a fighter but he shouldn’t have called out the Klitchko Bros since he had no intention of fighting them !!! Haye just wants to make money and get all of the fame without the risk !!! Makes him a bitch IMO !!!
