Btw waldo

You are quite possibly my favorite contributor to the site.

Not to sound like a nuthugger, but I’ve noticed over quite some time that I agree with almost everything you type on here. Keep it up.

I immediately withdraw this statement if we start disagreeing or your posts become incoherent.

Thanks I really appreciate it! I try to at least put a little thought into my post and it is always nice to see that someone is reading it!

I liked it the first time. I really did. And I think it’s important that the story got out. But watching it really closely a second time (and not hungover), it was pretty hack-y by the filmmakers. And Resto’s sob stories didn’t really do much for me. You live in a basement? Oh no.

Panama Lewis is an asshole. Moderately fascinating, but just rotten to the core. As for Resto, it’s not that I don’t believe in forgiveness or second chances, but the way they went about it bugged me. Plus when they finally got together, it was like trying to figure out who could lie harder (it was Panama).

Despaigne-Paines R1

Despaigne is just a bigger man. Good right by Despaigne. It looks early like he can push Paines around at will. Left hook by Despaigne clips Paines. Another left hook, and that one landed a bit better, but still not square. Poor Paines is way out of his depth. This is an ugly mismatch with bad intentions. Paines is getting battered by a remarkably superior fighter. Tessitore keeps talking about Paines’ trainer saying he’s “the real deal.” BFD, Joe, what do you expect he’d say? “Honestly, we’re not even KIND OF ready for this fight, but it’s decent money.”

Despaigne-Paines R2

Paines continues to get dominated. BIG left hook and down goes Paines! That was a clean, hard shot. This won’t last long if Despaigne wants to end it. Paines, bless his heart, is trying his best. He’s getting hammered, though. But he’s landing counters here and there. He’s got some guts.

Big right uppercut by Despaigne, and he keeps throwing, but Paines is there throwing back. I like this referee. He makes no unnecessary motions whatsoever, plus he has a terrific chin beard.

Body shot by Despaigne. He continues to pretty easily dominate, but he’s not really pushing the gas pedal much.

Despaigne-Paines R4

Willie Lee believes he’s Lara’s toughest opponent. Lara has fought Danny Perez, Grady Brewer, Edwin Vazquez, Jose Varela, Darnell Boone…

I love doing RBR for these fights. I’d actually be racking up more comments without it. I could do things like go OOOH! and (NAME) IN TROUBLE.

Atlas is critiquing a little bit so that he has anything to talk about. Paines has some grit. This is watchable and I’m glad to be seeing actual fighting instead of Margarito in a suit looking pensive.

Officially boycotting Pacquiao vs. Margarito. In an economy that should be consumer driven, we suddenly find ourselves being force-fed by the producers of the spectacle. I say NO. If you agree with me, you should say NO too.

When both fighters white glove tape and the opponent’s white belt are all pink, then you have a serious cut on your hands.

by Waldo Rastel on Aug 18, 2010 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Despaigne-Paines R5

Despaigne throwing, but Paines cracks him back with a right. Despaigne is cut badly. That’s a biiiig cut outside of his right eye and bleeding a good amount.

Accidental headbutt is the ruling. Right outside of the right eye. Fight will go on, let’s see if Despaigne closes the show now.

They crack heads again just moments later on the other side of Despaigne’s dome. Despaigne is staying away from him as the blood just pours. I expect Despaigne might want this to go to the cards given how bad the cut is and the fact that he won’t want to sit out a long time waiting for it to heal.

Uppercut with the left hand by Despaigne, and Paines takes it well. Referee almost causes a foul from Paines and Teddy’s ready to criticize. (Rightly so, mind you.)

Despaigne 10-9
Despaigne 50-44

Probably Paines’ best round. Or Despaigne’s worst. However you want to put it.

Replay shows the clear clashing of heads. They just came together full force, side of head to side of head.

Atlas is starting to turn around on Paines’ trainer having a lot of confidence. I am, too. He’s not here to get rolled over, that’s for sure. He’s doing his best. Despaigne is easily outboxing him, but he’s not discouraging him.

I don’t know what it is. I’m not the world’s biggest Angulo fan, but that matchup seems horrible for Lara. I could see him really crumbling under the pressure instead of using his talents.

Lee came out aggressive, and Lara just devoured that.

by schraubd on Aug 18, 2010 11:24 PM EDT reply actions

Lara-Lee R1

Lara floors him with a nice combination, a straight left hand getting him to slowly fall on his ass.

Well…

Lee banging back, or rather trying to. Not getting much in. Lara hurts him again. BIG uppercut and beating on Lee, Cole waves it off.

Erislandy Lara TKO-1

Stoppage felt semi-quick, but I say that mainly because I wanted to see the second knockdown. There wasn’t much point in continuing it. Frankly, there wasn’t apparently much point in this matchup.

by El Destruyo on Aug 18, 2010 11:26 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

but I can’t really fault it because it was such a mismatch

Gumbo

Building a boxing career is like cooking a good pot of Gumbo, Joe. First you start with the roux. You need to get it to the right color before you move on. This is the amateur career of a fighter, wait until the fighter gets enough seasoning. Then you got to add the rice and cook it. These are your beginning pro fights. Let the fighter get a bunch of practice and get the skills simmering. Then you add the good stuff, steps up in competition. Shimp, bang, sausage, bang, okra, bang. Then finally we’re ready to eat, Joe.

Joe: I’m not sure if I followed that exactly, but I sure am hungry now, Teddy!

dude, he was on a boat with alligators

teddy does not switch metaphors mid fight! You know this.

Willy Lee was not ready to step in to the swamp. He got lost on his way home from a fishing trip and BAM!, alligator dinner!

That’s where Dawson and Tarver drew a thrilled 900 fans.

yeah its small

but i just don’t think dirrell-ward is going to any place particularly large crowd in Vegas.

by journeyintosound on Aug 18, 2010 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, no. I expected the Palms. It’s not like Mandalay Bay is going to bid on that fight.

I think they have held some smaller fights.

Yeah King had Agbeko-Perez there. He was like I’M BACK TO CONQUER VEGAS AT THE TREASURE ISLAND. IT’S GLORDIFEROUS.

apparently the hilton also hosts

but i ain’t staying at the hilton even though their sports book is all sorts of awesome. Theres the rio which is basically the same thing as the palms by all acounts. I think all of those places are pretty small (the hilton and rio are hosting no name fights according to boxrec).

well

now we just wait and see where they put it. As long as its not in detroit, even though I can drive to Detroit, Detroit sucks.

is Roger Mayweather."

Four words I always enjoy.

he looked like Wesley Snipes when he was younger

Officially boycotting Pacquiao vs. Margarito. In an economy that should be consumer driven, we suddenly find ourselves being force-fed by the producers of the spectacle. I say NO. If you agree with me, you should say NO too.

Roger

I do not love Roger Mayweather. He is the least appetizing Mayweather, imo.

I find him hilarious.

I respect him for at least knowing and appreciating boxing history. Not only that but trying to educate the other people in the gym.

They're All

hilarious, but something about assault with strangulation (that’s the charge) chills the laughter for me.

Actually I don’t think Jeff’s very funny. Poor Jeff.

On the other hand, I don’t think he’s ever been indicted.
