Good Afternoon

I rather like Huck, so I think I’ll join you for this one.

Yeah

The stream I found is currently supplying me with French rugby, which, given my complete inability to speak French, is rather confusing me!

I’ve got Huck to stop him, fancy it earlyish too

by LtfcPete on Aug 21, 2010 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

A very small chance. He’ll need to fight the best fight of his life. Period. Without a lot of power, he’ll have to THOROUGHLY dominate to get a win in Germany. And his style, which isn’t super active, probably won’t allow that. Huck will probably always look like the one pushing the action. Godfrey can definitely outbox Huck, but all things taken into account it’ll have to be some special outboxing to walk out with the W. There’s also simply the danger of Huck’s power, which could lead Godfrey to stay away too much, and that sure as hell won’t help.

I think the loss to Rudolf Kraj really changed him as a fighter… I don’t think he’s had an impressive win since…

by Dafs on Aug 21, 2010 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

And the way to beat Huck is to frustrate him, I doubt Godfrey can play rough-house tactics by staying away from his power and spoiling.

You’re rarely far off with your predictions but I seem to remember you writing once that you’d never lay down money on boxing. How come? I’m sure you’d make money

by LtfcPete on Aug 21, 2010 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m pretty far off frequently enough, really. Also I don’t gamble on boxing for a couple reasons. One, I don’t have the money to lose. Two, I don’t want to wind up becoming extremely biased based on my bets. I don’t object to betting on fights or anything.

Fair enough. The bias certainly plays a factor and for a journalist/blogger that’s a path you can’t tread I guess

Over/Under was the only loigcal thing to play since Tua was 1/100, and that I cocked up.

Alexander Frenkel is a Sauerland fighter. They’ll probably work with a couple other promoters. I’d say BJ Flores since he was supposed to fight Hernandez, but…you know.

Is Lebedev co-promoted by Warren and Universum?

Arum’s comments about the bantamweight tournament got me thinking… Which is better? Six-man in a super six style fashion, or an eight-man single elimination tourney? We get good fights out of both, but is it better for the promoters to get an eight-man tournament because they have more control over their fighters…

Huck-Godfrey R1

Godfrey starts the fight southpaw. He switches some, but he’s giving Huck the other look right off. Godfrey flicking his jab out, Huck patient on the outside with his guard high. Very slow start with Godfrey for-show jabbing and Huck waiting. Now Huck makes a little charge, but Godfrey has his gloves up high, too, and nothing lands. About halfway into the round now.

Godfrey shoots a 1-2 but both ends are short. Godfrey caught off balance a bit on another Huck rush, but again nothing lands. Godfrey doesn’t look really warm with his movement yet, but he’s fairly easily avoiding Huck’s bull rushes in the opening round. Now Huck lands on another rush. Nothing huge, but almost surely enough to give him the round given that Godfrey hasn’t landed one good punch the entire round.

Huck 10-9

Huck-Godfrey R2

If Godfrey continues to fight like this, he might not get knocked out, but he’s not going to win a single round. It’s nothing but a recipe for a sure loss where you do your best to avoid punishment, cash your check, and move on with your career.

Huck throws a long right, Godfrey makes him miss and ties him up with a shoulder into the gut. Technically Godfrey is the one pressing a lot of the time (most of the time), but he’s not landing anything and that pawing right-handed jab is not going to be enough to keep Huck at bay. Huck is not easily discouraged. Left to the body by Godfrey. Huck’s rushes are reckless and really not effective so far, but they show aggression and he’s very relaxed. He’s using his jab just enough that Godfrey can’t ignore it. Now he rushes again, and again Godfrey shows no interest in engaging.

Huck charges, now he’s catching Godfrey! HUGE RIGHT AND DOWN GOES GODFREY! Godfrey can’t deal with him if he lands.

Godfrey up, and the round ends.

by Scott Christ on Aug 21, 2010 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

To me

Huck looks rather open to the left to the body, if Godfrey sets it up with a stronger jab. However, it’s a bit late for that now!

Huck-Godfrey R3

Godfrey looking very slightly more aggressive to open the third, but Huck clearly has no worries over him and is just waiting for another chance to corner Godfrey and unload. Huck landing again, throwing with SERIOUS fury. Godfrey down again against the ropes. And this time it’s not a knockdown, apparently it was a foul of some sort with Huck throwing incredibly reckless blows from all over the place.

OH yeah — low blow. Clear low blow, too.

Godfrey throws a purposeful left hand! Go figure. Huck grabs him and bulls him to the ropes near the end of the round. He’s trying to intimidate Godfrey.

Godfrey’s corner doing their best. “He’s not holding back because he wants to, he’s holding back because you’re jabbing.”

Well

That low blow certainly wasn’t intentional. Unfortunate, that it happened then, or there could have been a legitimate KD very quickly.

Huck-Godfrey R4

Now Godfrey’s jab actually has a little on it to start the round. Godfrey gets walked to the corner again, but narrowly avoids a right hand and gets away. Little left hand from Godfrey sneaks past the guard. This round has been Godfrey’s best with a minute to go, as Huck has been mostly neutralized. Now he’s got Godfrey cornered again, lunges with a good right, and Godfrey ties him up. Godfrey comes back with a long left that maybe glanced off of Huck’s chin.

Godfrey really doesn’t anything to do with Huck on the inside. That’s not going to do him any favors either. Huck lands another right near the bell. He probably won this round on at least two cards ringside, but I thought Godfrey did better for most of the round.

Godfrey 10-9
Huck 39-36

Huck-Godfrey R5

Godfrey coming in, pumping his jab, shooting a left to the body. Now Huck has him in the corner again, starts throwing, and Godfrey ties him up. That’s just not going to work in Germany. He’s got to start landing clean, telling blows of his own.

Huck with a BIG RIGHT and DOWN GOES MATT GODFREY AGAIN! He just can’t handle Huck’s power. It’s too explosive for him.

He’s up, he’ll fight on. Huck charging and going for the kill. GODFREY FALLS THROUGH THE ROPES AND IS DOWN FOR A THIRD TIME!

This won’t last much longer. Huck is in kill mode. BIG RIGHT! Huck unleashing lefts and rights! Godfrey caught hard again, but he survives and gets away for a second. Huck just hammering him. Godfrey doing his damnedest to survive. And the referee stops it because Godfrey just isn’t fighting back.

Weren’t nearly enough for Godfrey there. Fun fight, but a big mismatch!

Awful refereeing...

You’re not allowed to shove your hand in someone’s face to tee up right hand after right hand…

Not arguing with the stoppage though.

Yeah

Godfrey also fell against the ropes a few times from a punch, which should really be a KD

Huck's a very dirty fighter

He’d have trouble outside of Germany simply because they let him get away with so many illegal tactics there
