James Toney out to score win for himself and boxing (Miami Herald)
Armando Alvarez Crine says "No boxer has had success in mixed martial arts." Untrue! Jeremy Williams had a little success. But aside from that silly quibble, there's a lot of good Toney quotes in there. He's very confident -- or is at least convincing me that he's very confident.
Angulo Ready To Face Chavez Jr., If Cotto Can't Fight (BoxingScene.com)
Miguel Cotto had his right shoulder scoped last month, and if he can't fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on December 4, Alfredo Angulo would like to step in. Keep in mind Angulo just turned down $750,000 to fight Sergio Martinez, and now he's targeting a guy most don't feel is a legitimate contender at all. Also keep in mind that Angulo turned down that $750,000 offer of a crack at the middleweight championship (the legit championship), AND that HBO was going to guarantee another TV date should he lose to Martinez and wish to return to 154, or whatever. And now he's all, "I'd love to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.!" and Gary Shaw, who advised Angulo to take the $750,000 offer to fight Martinez, is trying to take shots at Top Rank for only matching guys in-house. And he's right about that part, but...
Miguel Cotto's Operation Won't Affect Dec. 4 Bout With Julio Cesar Chavez (FanHouse)

Arthroscopic surgery isn't the biggest deal in the world and Cotto's lawyer says the fighter wants to fight late this year, and December 4 is, in fact, late this year. Keep in mind Cotto-Chavez hasn't been signed yet, but it's unlikely that it won't come off.
Calderon-Segura Presser (Fightnews.com)
Some photos and quotes from the final Calderon-Segura presser in Puerto Rico. I feel bad that UFC 118 is Saturday and that I am so curious about the Toney-Couture fight, because Calderon-Segura is a great fight at 108. At the same time, they put together an undercard of nothing but filler, so...

A veteran of Boston's boxing circuit, UFC 118's Marcus Davis thankful for MMA (MMA Junkie)
James Toney isn't the only man fighting at UFC 118 who started off in boxing. Marcus Davis went 17-1-2 (12 KO) against marginal competition as a pro boxer from 1993-2000, mostly fighting in Boston, where he returns to action on Saturday against Nate Diaz.
