Antonio Margarito in Texas: "All Signs Point to YES!"
Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reports that it's looking good in Texas for Antonio Margarito.
Texas program manager of combat sports Dickie Cole had this to say:
"My personal opinion is what he had on his hands doesn't give you any advantage over an opponent. Do I personally think it'd help his hands or be detrimental to his opponent? No. It'd have no effect on his punching power. I wonder how many of those [California] commissioners ever had a hand wrapped before."
He also added, "the only gentleman on that committee who's been involved in boxing [John Frierson] voted to give [Margarito] the license."
John Frierson, it's worth noting, also deeply questioned the idea that Margarito would not have noticed something foreign in his wraps, something he was unfamiliar with. He made a point to all but say he felt that was not really possible for an experienced boxer. When Mr. Frierson voted yes, he seemed to do so on some sort of concession, noting that Margarito is 32 years old and that in a year, it might not even matter if he wants to come back. Cole's argument is a bit flawed for those who watched the California hearing. John Frierson was hardly dead set and loyal in Margarito's corner.
But it's Texas' right to license Margarito, and I am 103% sure that's going to be the case. Everyone knows that Margarito is going to be licensed, they're going to put upwards of 70,000 in Cowboys Stadium on November 13, and that's just the way it is.
Feels like an Arby's night.

Now can we talk about what happens if he wins
I know, I know. No way. But hey this is Boxing.
As for Texas…. watch for Vegas to follow. Then all the others. Or should I say at least those states who need revenue.
