Mandatory Eight Count: Calderon-Segura, Lopez-Marquez, UFC 118
Photos/Weights: Ivan Calderon 107, Giovani Segura 107 (Boxing Scene)
Ivan Calderon and Giovani Segura both came in a bit under the 108-pound limit for tomorrow's junior flyweight championship fight. Segura's height advantage is pretty big.
Juan Manuel Lopez-Rafael Marquez Could Go on Nov. 6 (FanHouse)
Rafael Marquez is hearing Nov. 6 for a rescheduled date against Juan Manuel Lopez, though reports out of Puerto Rico earlier had Oct. 23 or Oct. 30. Where this fight ends up could shape a lot of things. The bantamweight double-header (Perez-Agbeko II and Darchinyan-Mares) was being looked at for Nov. 6 and Dec. 18, but now HBO might be targeting Pascal-Hopkins for Dec. 18. The bantamweights could be held off until 2011 at this rate, since Showtime likely wouldn't want to go head-to-head with something like Pascal-Hopkins. In a beautiful, glorious, amazing world, Lopez-Marquez would headline a show with the bantamweights on the undercard, but that's a lot of promoters grumbling (Top Rank, Golden Boy, Gary Shaw, and Don King would all be involved).
UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2, Randy Couture vs. James Toney Predictions (Bloody Elbow)
Amazingly, no one at Bloody Elbow is picking James Toney. No one's picking Frankie Edgar, either.
Vitali-Briggs likely for ESPN networks (Dan Rafael @ Twitter)
Looks like the Oct. 16 fight between WBC heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko and Shannon Briggs will get a similar deal to the one on Sept. 11 for Wladimir Klitschko-Samuel Peter II. The Wlad-Peter rematch will air live on ESPN3.com, then taped on ESPN the next day.
The brawl in Porthcawl: Dick Richardson v Brian London (BBC Sport)
"The 'Blackpool Rock' Brian London challenged Newport's Dick Richardson in a bad-tempered brawl, but it was the post-fight chaos that caused outrage." An engrossing article from Sean Davis of BBC Sport.
Boxing's 'Son Of God' Andre Ward on Chad Dawson and Andre Dirrell (Boxing News Online)
Andre Ward talks about Chad Dawson's loss to Jean Pascal, his friend Andre Dirrell, and the Froch-Abraham fight.
The best of all time A to Z: Louis (The Ring)
If you haven't been following The Ring's "A to Z" series, you should be. Joe Louis took "L," obviously, and the rest of the series to this point is linked in the post.
Toney-Couture bout likely won't settle MMA-vs.-boxing argument (Miami Herald)
You don't say! Toney-Couture has as much weight on "MMA versus boxing" -- a dumb idea to begin with -- as Royce Gracie v. Art Jimmerson did.
