Punching Power: James Toney v. Randy Couture at UFC 118

Who punches harder? The UFC's Randy Couture, or his opponent tomorrow night, MMA newcomer and 42-year-old boxing veteran James Toney?

ESPN's Sports Science finds out who has more sheer measurable force, and examines Couture's "dirty boxing" force, too. It's a very interesting look at the fight.

That is pretty half assed. They don’t even look at Toney except for the first thing they measure. I know that he would not measure up, but it basically just comes across as Couture propaganda, not “Science”.

They look at the one thing Toney knows how to do.

Right...

and think about it. Do you think James is going to let them compare his stamina to Couture’s?

You are assuming that Toney was willing to do anything other than throw a punch for them. Randy is always willing to do things to promote MMA, Toney is not exactly the most willing person when it comes to this sort of thing

I dont think this is a biased viewpoint

They said toney hit 33% harder, and then talked about couture stamina. I will tell you one thing “Dirty Boxing” or whatever you want to call should be the last thing Couture wants to do with Toney. Toney is one of the best inside fighters of all time.
