Around SBN: Devils Beat Rangers, Head To Stanley Cup Finals

Starting at 2 pm Eastern and wrapping up around 6 pm, Hatton Promotions is presenting Scott Quigg against Santiago Alione for a minor super bantamweight trinket. Also, at 8:45 Eastern, Frank Maloney will be presenting Logan McGuinness vs. Buzz Grant (not available in Canada, where the fight will air on Super Channel 2). Both fights require registration with Seconds Out, but are otherwise free.

There are a lot of fights going on today, but not a lot of great ones. Feel free to use this as an open thread to discuss today's fights, which include these two; John Murray, Albert Sosnowski and Prince Arron on Sky; Ramon Garcia Hirales against Chango Vargas on FSN; and Diablo Wlodarczyk vs. Jason Robinson on Polsat.

Wayne Reed vs. Steffan Hughes has been a nice little scrap

They're announcing a 16-man heavyweight tournament

$13 million prize, $36 million total prize pool, with fights to take place in Dubai, China, India and the UK.

Called the “Universal King of Boxing”

They say Evander Holyfield has agreed to participate, and that they’ve reached out to Haye and the Klitschkos.

Almost sounds like a joke to me. I remember they tried to put together that $5M Superfighter tournament a few years back, but the financial backing fell through. I can’t imagine a circumstance where they’ll be able to get $36 million together with this current crop of heavies unless Haye and/or a Klitschko is involved.

Now there's a bunch of women dancing in the ring wearing trenchcoats

Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose?

Murray versus Kudriavtsev

Cracking fight, can’t see Murray hanging with the likes of Khan and Bradley but if he ever got it on with Katsidis or JMM they’d be FoTY candidates for sure

John Murray

looked pretty good on Sky but he should not take a fight with Victor Ortiz who is both too big and too good, imo.
Murray should bide his time at 135 and wait for his opportunity for a shot at one of the belts.
I agree Pete,a fight with Marquez or Katsidis would be v. entertaining.
He should forget about Khan, who would be way too fast.

Yeah

I don’t think Ortiz would be a good idea but Murray seemed keen in his interview. He’ll be well received in the states regardless

Murray's always struck me as sort of a poor man's Juan Diaz

Haven’t seen much of him lately though.

I think he will be doing really well to capture one of the main 4 belts at lightweight, but i suppose it depends on who holds them at the time.
I don’t really see him as that much higher than Euro level,to be honest but think he would give Katsidis or Marquez a pretty good fight.

He’s not gonna say no on live tv though is he? :)
I’m sure he would fight him though,as all boxers are courageous but his team won’t let him take that fight and rightly so,imo.
As Khan and Nelson are saying now though, for all he’s entertaining,Murray is a bit one dimensional and i can see him being picked apart by some of the quicker, slicker smarter fighters.

Yeah

To be honest I think he’d struggle with anyone who won’t stand in front of him and trade, Khan would be his worst knightmare I’d have thought. If that were to, through one way or another, ever materialise then I’d have my house on Amir. Look forward to seeing him next though, for sure

I didn’t see that one but though he looked good in his last fight and he could be a pretty good fighter.

Damn I wish I could watch the card from Canada. I know a couple of the guys fighting on it. I was supposed to go watch live but couldn’t and don’t have super channel.
