Sergio Martinez vs Darren Barker: Fight Time, TV Schedule, and Odds

Sergio Martinez defends the middleweight championship tonight against Darren Barker.

Tonight's double-header featuring middleweight champion Sergio Martinez against British challenger and former two-time European champ Darren Barker is live tonight, and Bad Left Hook will have round-by-round coverage. Here are the quick details:

Fight time: 10:00 p.m. EDT

Location: Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City, NJ

TV channel: HBO (United States), Sky Sports (United Kingdom)

Odds: Odds are off the charts, basically, with Martinez at -2750 at 5Dimes and -2500 at SBG Global. Barker is an underdog of +1450 and +1200, respectively.

Usually we'd do staff picks with this post, too, but I want to apologize for the lack of those this week since I forgot to send out the email to everyone, which is my mistake. Burn me if you must. I do know that our own Andrew Fruman believes Barker has a better shot than most do, but I can only say that I don't think "Dazzling" Darren has much of a shot at all. He's got talent, but I just don't think he's got enough of it, and I see this one turning into a blowout, personally. But we'll find out tonight, and even if the main event isn't a gem, the co-feature rematch between Andy Lee and Brian Vera should be a cracker.

I think Barker has the skills

to keep the fight close for a bit, but Sergio is such a massive step up that I can see a quick wipeout as well.

I can’t remember the last time we had a WBC with such odds.

"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."

These are galactic distances, aren’t they. Dignifying “no chance” with some number that’s not quite zero, but might as well be.

I think Barker’s a good, solid fighter, but is just all-around less than anyone hoping to beat Martinez should be. Spada hit him kind of a lot with his left, and Martinez will do the same big time.

Someone here called the fight for Martinez somewhere between 6 and 10; I’ll call it for 4 or 5.
