Bernard Hopkins vs Chad Dawson: Official Poster

Here's the official poster for the October 15 fight between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson:

Hopkins_vs_dawson_poster_medium

Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO) and Dawson (30-1, 17 KO) meet on HBO pay-per-view from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, fighting for the 46-year-old Hopkins' light heavyweight championship. I think the biggest selling point here is Hopkins himself -- any fight, at his age, could be his last. Win, lose, or draw. There's no guarantee that Hopkins won't just think after any given fight, "Well, that's enough," even if he keeps having these great performances.

Is anyone going with Dawson here? I don't mean that to sound like he's got no shot. He's got a great chance to win this fight. His youth, his skill set, are good matchups against Hopkins. But it's become so hard to bet against B-Hop that I wonder if anyone out there is really saying, "Bernard Hopkins will lose this fight." I've said it enough, personally. I kept being wrong.

Hopkins just seems to have the mental edge in any matchup and I don’t think Dawson can withstand that enough to pull out a win. Aside from that I don’t think a fighter who seemingly takes rounds off is the one that is going to test the old man.

Dawson can't win 7 CLEAR rounds against Hopkins

He won’t have control of his own output and he’s not in the same league defensively.

The cleaner punches will be right hands from the old man. One way or another, he is walking out the champion.

Nope...

I just can’t see Chad Dawson beating Hopkins, unless B-Hop suddenly gets old. I just don’t see it happening in this fight though.

Good poster

I’m not sure about the tag line “Believe it or Not!”
I think their hand-written nick names is a nice touch.

Scott, I notice the “Boxing Posters” tag . . . good look.

Yeah I’m not wild about the tagline, but I think the poster is actually quite good.

I was wondering if some one can explain it.

I’m not an expert but I’m sure I could do a better job and I’m not a professional copywriter.

Mixed feelings here—for me, and part of what I like about it, boxing comprises high, and low, art: On one hand, it’s really a true dance, a ballet of war, an art—and on the other, it has deep roots in fairground, circus, carnival lowest-common-denominator loud, fun, vulgar art. The lifecast and poster—kind of tip a wink to the latter, so I’m ok with this.

I’ve said it enough, personally. I kept being wrong.

That’s exactly why I can’t pick against him ever again. He proved me wrong enough for me to accept he’s just that great. He is such a smart fighter.

1. Anderson Silva is waiting for you to punch him.
2. That guy is Anderson Silva.
3. Don't fucking punch that guy.

if i was a betting man i would put some $ on dawson

dawson has all the abilities to defeat hopkins, if hopkins has an offnight or takes the early rounds off i doubt he can comeback and defeat dawson
hopkins did pick dawson but i think he picked the dawson he saw against diaconou

I was surpsied to see that Dawson is a slight favourite with most UK bookies.

That just gives me all the more reason to bet on Hopkins, as the underdog.
I have never rated Dawson particluarly highly and i just don’t see him having the pysical ability or, more importantly, the mental ability to get past Hopkins, even at his advanced age.

Slight favorite here too.

I’ll pick Dawson. He seems to me to be much more mobile than Pascal, he hits harder, and, the inevitable added point, he’s lefthanded.

Hopkins looked to me like he had a rough time against Pascal for the first three or four rounds. I think Dawson will hit too hard, and move too much.

by DrRck on Oct 5, 2011 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

Dawson has the tools but does he have the mental strength to win. The way he fought Pascal was as a good example of the superior fighter throwing away a contest as you will see. Tough call against a man, who even with his declining reflexes still has the mental strength of Hercules. OK Dawson MD but dont quote me

I'm with you 100% until the end

I say draw, or Hopkins by very close decision. At this point, an inferior boxer with great stamina and heart would probably beat Hopkins, but Dawson ain’t that guy.

They always are. There really is no reason for “posters” in the 21st century.

by DrRck on Oct 5, 2011 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

They really should just be pictures of the fighters with with the invitation “A Fight. Watch If You’re Interested.” We all already know what’s gojng on.

The Ripley’s-esque “Believe It or Not” is an obvious reference to Hopkins’ age, but it looks like something concocted by cracked.com. It’s a joke, to anyone not a boxing fan.

There was a time when I thought that Dawson was the wort possible style matchup for X

But at this point, everyone knows he gets frozen up by movement or incoming punches. Unless Hopkins’ stamina goes back down like it was in the Jones fight or the first Taylor fight, he should be able to exploit that enough to win 7 rounds. Dawson is honestly about as talented of an American boxer as there is north of welterweight, but Hopkins is the perfect fighter to exploit that flaw.

The biggest surprise

Woiuld be if this isn’tbthe Snoozer of the Year.

Dawson is capable of some of the most boring fights…and nd Bernard is not exactly known for most exciting.

Unless Dawson fights every minute of every round for twelve rounds, Bernard will keep his crown by close decision.

Is anyone going with Dawson here?

I have Dawson winning this one pretty comfortably on the scorecards.

by FlyByKnight on Oct 6, 2011 6:30 AM EDT reply actions

agree…….except not comfortable.

by DPlainview on Oct 6, 2011 6:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think that result is out of the question. I think Dawson`s stamina as you pointed out is a huge issue. The most effective way to beat Bhop is to make the guy work every minute of every round, can Dawson do that ? Thats a huge If
