Joe Frazier: Public Viewings Set For Friday and Saturday, Ali Expected to Attend Funeral
The body of the late, great Smokin' Joe Frazier will be at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for two public viewings this weekend. Fans and admirers who want to pay their final respects to the former heavyweight champion of the world can do so on Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. EST, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST.
Ryan Maquiñana of BoxingScene.com also reports that Frazier's greatest rival, Muhammad Ali, is expected to attend Monday's funeral services for Frazier. The two feuded bitterly for many years, with Frazier holding on to deeper wounds for longer than Ali did, which was understandable as Frazier took the brunt of some frankly horrible "trash talk" from Ali. But the two were also friendly with one another on many occasions publicly, and after hearing of Frazier's passing this past week, Ali said in a statement, "I will always remember Joe with respect and admiration. My sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones."
Earlier this week, we posted the video of Frazier surprising Ali in a 1978 episode of "This Is Your Life," where Frazier recounted a Philadelphia-to-New York car ride the two of them once shared.
Frazier passed away on Monday evening in New York, after a short and sudden battle with liver cancer. He was 67 years old.
