Pacquiao vs Marquez: Joel Casamayor Wants Manny After Timothy Bradley

Has Joel Casamayor gone mad, or is it just the usual boxing nonsense? (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

This is a minor note more than anything, but I had the desire to comment on it anyway. Ryan Burton of BoxingScene.com spoke with Joel Casamayor, the badly faded former lightweight champion who, at age 40, faces Timothy Bradley in a terrible co-feature fight on tonight's Pacquiao vs Marquez card.

Now, fighters always say they expect to win and all that, but I firmly believe that boxing is interesting to those who follow it in part because no other sport's fans and media are so fully aware that they're being lied to constantly. Athletes and authority figures in all sports exaggerate and lie, but boxing is just overflowing with complete nonsense, to the point where after all these years, the best I can usually muster is laughter. It makes following the sport more fun for me, to be honest. Accentuate the positives -- it's funny.

Anyway, even though Bradley is favored by odds ranging from -2000 to -2500 tonight, Casamayor says that after he wins he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao:

"They say the winner of this fight gets to fight Pacquiao. That is the fight I want. I want to fight the top guys," Casamayor told BoxingScene.com. ... "We were supposed to fight back then (in the super featherweight and lightweight divisions) but he wasn't ready for me. Now he has the experience so they will make the fight."

If this weren't just boxing as usual, we'd figure Casamayor has lost his marbles.

Bad Left Hook's live coverage of Pacquiao vs Marquez begins tonight at 9 p.m. EST, and we'll also have a stream of the off-TV undercard starting at 7. Stay tuned.

I know there’s no round by round for the Fury card, but is there going to be an open thread?

Alot of fights in boxing never get made and sometimes we are forced to accept those that do. But casamayor vs Pacquiao. C’mon man!

Didn’t know Joel was a Raider fan, and war hero………………….learn something every day.

I hope by some act of god, that Casa wins the first few rounds and then after the 4th head butts bradley and make this a memorable night.

Anyways… I have no doubt that a prime casamayor would whupped bradley.

"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."

I’m giving Casamayor an outside shot. Mainly cuz it worked for me once before when I took a flier on him. He had looked terrible and needed a girt from the judges to “beat” Santa Cruz. He was expected to hand over the belt and in the process get demolished by the than undfeated Michael Katsidis. He was the underdog (not as big as today) and rightly so. But things didn’t as planned. Here’s to history repeating itself.

All of it. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. I want it all.

Eubank v Psonko up.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:02 PM EST reply actions

The bell rang, and Psonko ran across the ring, and Eubank just stood in his corner watching.

Eubank is very sharp, very fast, Psonko really looks like he made a mistake showing up, so far.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:06 PM EST reply actions

Psonko has a peekaboo turtle defense, Eubank seems to get through it, but if Psonka had a decent left, he might be able t catch Psonko. He doesn’t, though.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:08 PM EST reply actions

Eubank looks good, sharp jabs and rights, but he’s not actually in a fight to speak of.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:10 PM EST reply actions

Psonko just moving back, no movement, getting caught against the ropes again and again.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Psonko has maybe thrown one or two punches per round.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:12 PM EST reply actions

20-18 Eubank, BTW.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:13 PM EST reply actions

Psonko waking up just a little, a couple of left-rights.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:13 PM EST reply actions

how do you rate Psonko as a first opp?

He looks like on of those awkwards guys you usually get after 4-5 fights to me

by properdave on Nov 12, 2011 5:14 PM EST reply actions

Ref stops the fight, just because Psonko wasn’t fighting.

I don’t know anything about Psonko, and he sure didn’t show anything.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

Another 10-9 for Eubank, Psonko actually moved his hands a little, but he’s drowning.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:14 PM EST reply actions

N upper body mvement at all from Psonko.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:15 PM EST reply actions

Stoppage rd, rightly, Psonko apparently didn’t realize he’d signed up for a boxing match.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:19 PM EST reply actions

Eubank fought for some 3+ rounds, and now he says he wants to “enjoy.” himself. I’m not sure what he’s thinking of, but it can’t be a vacation after a tough fight. Maybe he means that he expects every future opponent to be like Psonko.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 5:26 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know if anyone is watching this Fury fight, but words so far: HOLY SHIT.

by DPlainview on Nov 12, 2011 5:54 PM EST reply actions

I didn’t like that stoppage………..it was probably going to end soon, but it was too much DAMN FUN!!

I’ll say this for Fury……………….the dude ain’t boring.

by DPlainview on Nov 12, 2011 5:57 PM EST reply actions

It was a terrible stoppage

All of it. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. I want it all.

by Eugene Banks on Nov 12, 2011 6:12 PM EST reply actions

I think it was a bit of a terrible fight, too. I like Fury a lot, but in my opinion neither one of them looked all that good.

by DrRck on Nov 12, 2011 6:32 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, like we said over on the fanpost, it was like a bar room brawl.
