One of the things we as boxing fans love to debate is the greatest fight ever. And it's fun, but it suffers from one obvious flaw -- redundancy. There are only a few dozen fights at most that will ever get mentioned. Depending on your age, you're going to say something like Ali/Frazier, Hagler/Hearns, or Gatti/Ward.
So I'd like to take it in a slightly different direction: What's the best fight that you personally watched live?
Don't be embarrassed if it's some offbeat undercard club fight. That'll just give the rest of us something new to hunt down. That's a good thing.
For me, it was Chazz Witherspoon vs. Adam Richards on the Jermain Taylor/Jeff Lacy undercard. Richards was a local clubfighter, and supposed to be an easy bounce back for Witherspoon after his first loss. Instead we got a war with one of the nastiest finishes imaginable. Witherspoon finally got his win after Richards turned into a human pinball, but man he had to work for it. I'll never understand how Richards stayed up until the ref saved him.
My other pick? Two guys making their debut in front of maybe 200 people. William Imoro got dropped twice in the first against Tyrese Hendrix, then stormed back to sweep the next 3 and score a draw. Neither guy ever amounted to much (Hendrix lost a couple of times on FNF, and Imoro retired 1-1-1), but they had our little bandbox club on its feet that night.
So there my picks are. What are yours?
