WBO flyweight titlist Brian Viloria will make his first defense of the belt he won from Pingo Miranda in July of this year when he faces another top Mexican fighter, Giovani Segura. The fight is going to be set in Manila on December 10, according to RingTV.com.
Viloria (29-3, 16 KO) and Segura (28-1-1, 24 KO) are former sparring partners who have had some words this year as the former junior flyweight champ Segura has targeted Viloria for this title shot since he picked up the belt in July. Segura says he got the better of Viloria in sparring, as you would expect he would say.
About a month ago, Ryan Songalia spoke with Viloria about a potential Segura fight:
Viloria vs Segura is unlikely to be aired in the United States, with the time difference and all of that, but surely will be shown on TV in the Philippines and I'd expect in Mexico, as well. It's a big fight for both guys, a chance for Segura to get a big, legit win at 112 pounds, and a chance for Viloria to score one of the best wins of his rocky but never dull career.
