James Toney on Denis Lebedev, Klitschkos, Emanuel Steward (Video)

Stay connected for news and updates

Here's a week-old interview with James Toney, who heads to Russia to face Denis Lebedev for the interim WBA cruiserweight title on Friday. Uh, enjoy?

Same old stuff, really. He's kind of run out of material since he hasn't done anything in years. I do like that he criticizes the Klitschkos for fighting David Haye and Tomasz Adamek. It must be that everyone's ducking James Toney, who at heavyweight has beaten ... uh.

I also want to clear something up. First of all nobody cares about the IBA heavyweight title because it's a fringe belt that doesn't matter at all except to James Toney and I guess other guys who carry those things around, but Toney says here he's "still the IBA heavyweight champion." This is actually not true. You don't need to do anything more than look at the IBA's list of "champions." At heavyweight, their world title is vacant, their continental belt is held by Oliver McCall, their Americas belt by Joe Hanks, and their Latino belt by Hector Ferreyro. No James Toney. James Toney doesn't hold this belt he keeps saying that he holds.

Just being thorough. Just saying.
