While there was plenty of boxing action last night and a big UFC card to boot, MMA promotion Bellator may have put on the fight of the night with the lightweight (155 lbs.) title fight at Bellator 58 between Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler.
I know that many of you aren't MMA fans, and that's OK, but to me, a great fight's a great fight, and surely some of you feel the same. Bellator was kind enough (and smart enough) to put this fight up immediately on YouTube to spread the buzz that came out of the event.
It's being called by many MMA's Fight of the Year. I'm not well-learned enough in this year's MMA action to say whether or not that's accurate, but here it is. If you're a diehard fan and missed it, a casual MMA fan, or just curious enough to spend about 20 minutes checking out a great fight, here it is:
From around SBN:
Jackie Maden, Bloody Elbow: "This was an amazing, back-and-forth battle that at some moments was moving too quickly to follow. Both fighters showed great standup skills and impressive power."
Shaun Al-Shatti, MMA Nation: "...an unbelievable contest guaranteed a spot on every "Fight of the Year" list..."
Brian Hemminger, MMAmania.com: "If you missed it, you'll be kicking yourself -- hard. ... It was wild, it was dramatic, it might have been the best fight of 2011."
