Have you seen much of Felix Diaz as a pro Scott? I know he’s about 10-0 and i remember him winning the gold medal the 2008 Olympics, but i have have yet to see him as a pro.
Actually, i may have seen him once, in a blowout in one of his first pro fights.
Diaz didn't make weight.
And as he stepped on the scale, looked like he didn’t give a shit. His fight is off. Jackson came in at 150, Diaz toed it a 159. And, he looked simply fat.

actually this is where I was gonna go
Diaz seems lazy and indifferent. He fights like it, too. How he won a gold medal is beyond me. He’s sloppy, he’s reckless, and he’s arrogant. I really see no future in that dude.

I remember he beat the Thai, Manus Boomjungyong, in the final and i was a bit disappointed because Boomer was the reigning champ and had beat two of the favourites (a Cuban and a Kazakh) on his way to the final. He also just looked like a much better fighter to me than Diaz, but that’s how amateur boxing goes sometimes.
Honestly, i was never impressed with Diaz in Beijing and thought it was a fluke that he got the gold.
I just wondered how good he was as a pro. Not very, by the sound of it.

"Dominant vs Dangerous" has to be the worst title for a fight card just about ever. What were HBO thinking?
"Occasionally, there is a boxing match that, in its demonstration of skill, courage, intelligence, hope, seems to redeem the sport - almost. Perhaps boxing has always been a sport in crisis, a sport of crisis."
it's pretty bad...

I was at the Broner weigh in yesterday and will be
front row ringside tonight. I’m fucking stoked.

Gary Russell Jr is off TV? Why would they do that? Well that’s disappointing…
Wouldn’t mind watching the Ishida/Espinonsa fight either…

Because it’s not a good enough fight for HBO.

The odds are absurd
Cintron will probably be right there with Canelo tonight.
You would expect those odds if Canelo was an elite fighter, but he’s not, and I’m certain that he never will be.
People are hard on Cintron for good reason but he is the best fighter Alvarez has ever fought.
Those odds DO NOT reflect the kid’s skill level at all.
Kermit hates pressure. That’s obvious by now. Canelo doesn’t pressure though. He stays at range at least 75% of every round. That’s not smart against a rangier opponent.
Not a smart fight to make, imo, but we shall see.
Remeber when Canelo dropped rounds to Alfonso Gomez?
The odds reflect the fact that Cintron can’t win a decision and that the ref will probably be on his side.
Remeber when Canelo dropped rounds to Alfonso Gomez?
Remember when Cintron lost to Carlos Molina (bad) in July and then a month later barely got by Antwone Smith? It seems like nobody else does. Whatever Cintron was, he has given no indication that he still is anymore.

He is done

Do you think it's possible that weighing less than 150 lbs affected him negatively?
Obviously most people DO remember Cintron’s last couple fights. Check the odds. Who, besides myself, is giving Cintron a chance to do anything?
Backing up as the shorter man and fighting from the outside is a diffciult way of going about it.
No. He is all done. Molina almost stopped him and Molina can't break an egg .

Do you think it’s possible that weighing less than 150 lbs affected him negatively?
Perhaps. I also suppose it’s possible he didn’t short circuit and decide on his own that flying out of the ring was a good idea, or that he really thinks Martinez headbutted him, or that he isn’t looking for any excuse as to why Margarito folded him over twice (Margarito sure never got any other really good fighters out in five or six — musta used extra fast-hardening plaster against Kermit).
Anything can happen.

Well, betting odds are about making money for the house. I don’t see them as an accurate reflection of any fight. And honestly, 90% of people I’ve encountered think Cintron is DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER in this fight. Personally I think Cintron is a mediocre fighter (at best) with a defect deep down in his guts. It doesn’t help that his best win is over one of the the other guys in my top three most overrated fighters in boxing (Angulo). Those two should get together and compare greatest wins. Yorgey? Walter Matthysse? Joel Julio? Teddy Reid?
In other words, you have to excuse my bias, but I just find this fight to be the regular ol’ Canelo Alvarez fight on paper. If it’s better, then great. I’d rather be wrong and get a good fight than be right and see the yawner I expect.

Well Scott and Sammlung beat me to it lol. They outlined the reasons Cintron got this fight. He’s viewed as a non-threat, plain and simple. He looked awful and bored his last 2 times out and everyone is figuring he’s shot. I do think there’s an outside chance that a 100% focused Cintron can give Canelo some trouble, but really, what are the odds on that based on his last few outings (also remember that BS vs. Paul Williams).
If he’s the fighter he was in that brief period between getting bent over by Margarito twice, he has a shot. But I don’t think he is.

He is a head case. He is liable to fall off the steps coming in and be carried out in a strectcher
while sobbing. Right up there with Ortiz. Don’t know what to expect.

Ouch. Ron was a very interesting guy.

Deontay Wilder
Is it me or his career playing out similarly to Matvey Korobov. Both medal winners from the 2008 Olympics who entered the professional ranks with high expectations in November 2008. Neither has fought the competition we would like to see them fighting at this point.
Wilder has being an American heavyweight going for him at least. I gotta question if Korobov even cares about his boxing career. He never seemed like a bad fighter (Wilder does), but he’s made no progress.

I know David Long (tonight's opponent)
and told him to be wary of Wilder’s overhand right. That’s all he has. But, David is just too damned short and too damned old. Nice guy though.

Korobov is a former 2008 Olympian, but he didn’t win a medal. He went out in the second round.
He is a two time World Amateur Champ though and beat Ismael Sillakh by stoppage in the final of the 2005 tourney.
Wilder won the bronze in Beijing.
It would be a shame if Korobov never realised his potential in the pros.
When he first started i thought he looked great, as a novice, and while i haven’t seen him in a while, the reports i’ve read (mainly on here) don’t sound very promising.
He used to KO or TKO a lot of top level fighters in the amateurs and for that reason and also because he’s got sound technique and good ability, i thought he would have made a for a good pro.
Only a year or two ago he was one of he hottest prospects out there.
He’s still got time at 28 but he needs to get moving.
I’d love to see him fight the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Dimitry Pirog down the line, if he gets to that level.
Ismael Sillakh is a future champ. Bet on THAT!
