Today in New York at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto traded words in the final press conference for their December 3 fight at Madison Square Garden, live on HBO pay-per-view.
Cotto has in the build-up to the fight taken several shots at Margarito, and said repeatedly he has no respect for him. He has also noted his intention to target Margarito's questionable right eye, which was surgically repaired earlier this years.

Margarito says if Cotto wants to target the eye, he's OK with that...and then some:
"He says he’s not going to have no mercy on my eye," Margarito said. "He can hit my eye as many times as he wants. He hits like a little girl. A super flyweight hits harder. He wants to take it personal. I’ll take it very personal, too. Do whatever you want. He’s not going to beat me at all. Never. Never."
Margarito also took exception to Cotto saying he's a criminal, remarking, "I don’t know why he calls me a criminal. I am not a person that beats up on his own family," referencing the brawl Cotto had in 2009 with his uncle and former trainer, Evangelista Cotto.
Cotto reportedly kept his cool and offered little reaction, as you'd probably expect from Cotto.
This has become an intensely personal rivalry, and usually I'd dismiss this at least somewhat as PR stuff, and yeah, there's an element to playing the characters up and bringing in the controversy and money, but I'm frankly convinced these two have less than one ounce of respect for one another right now.
