Khan vs Peterson Rematch: Barry Hunter Says Rematch Not Set Just Yet
Though Amir Khan's team says they're targeting a March 31 date in Las Vegas for a rematch with Lamont Peterson, Peterson's trainer and manager Barry Hunter was pretty direct in an interview on MMA Nation this evening, denying that anything is set at this point.
"We don't know nothing about a March fight in Vegas," Hunter said.
Khan's Facebook page did say about an hour ago, "Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson II set for March 31 2012."
But that appears, for now, to be premature. The date sounds good, the location in Vegas seems likely, and that very well might be the rematch, on March 31 in Vegas.
It does not appear to be totally set, though, as Hunter would have to be involved in making that call, obviously, and even though the fight seems more an inevitability than anything, it has been less than 24 hours since Lamont Peterson had his hand raised in DC. It might take a few days, a couple weeks, whatever. We'll probably hear something relatively soon, but this soon might be setting a record.

I wouldn’t be mad if Peterson made a victory lap first. Juan Manuel Lopez’s team tried to push through an instant rematch and Salido made them wait.

yeah!
khan should wait a bit, remember the manner in which he scoffed away at maidana ‘crying away sayin he wants a rematch, and wantin beat again’ the man has no class outside the ring. He cheated, got penalised and lost his titles. When he learns to respect other fighters, only then should he get the respect he says he deserves.

Maybe Khan should be careful what he wishes for. Just a thought

definitely
another loss and the guy would never get a decent platform to build a fight against mayweather, a win would redeem himself a bit but the fact is he lost, one more defeat and who knows where he could end up. Peterson had the skills to adapt and change, take the fight back to him.

No rematch clause in the contract
Peterson is now driving the bus

I wonder if Peterson’s team are checking to see what the chances of landing Floyd on May 5 are?
With a win over Khan, Peterson’s credentials are comparable to the ledger Victor Ortiz had when he landed the Mayweather fight. Might as well looking into the possibility, before agreeing to a Khan rematch. That would be a nice payday, and the Khan fight would still probably be on the table for later in the year.

Peterson did fight a good fight, but he got outclassed for 10 of the 12 rounds. Y’all would be giving Devon Alexander hell if this exact scenario played out in St. Louis.
Well that’s one person on earth who thinks Khan won 10 rounds.

Who? Victor Ortiz!
"According to all the laws of aerodynamics the bumble-bee should not fly, but the bumble-bee does not know this and so flies anyway."
Some slight exaggerating there on my part, I didn’t actually sit there and score it and I haven’t rewatched it. But Khan outclassed him throughout. He didn’t whip Peterson’s ass or anything, but I feel like he did enough to win a majority of the rounds. Maybe judges should start wearing noise-cancelling headphones when in a fighter’s home town?
I’m not even a big Khan fan but I feel like there would be more outrage if Peterson didn’t have the back story he does.
