Ward vs Froch: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage of the Super Six Final

Carl Froch and Andre Ward settle things tonight in Atlantic City. (Photo by Tom Casino/Showtime)

As with all the big fights (and a lot of the not-so-big fights), Bad Left Hook will be here tonight with live, round-by-round coverage of the Super Six World Boxing Classic final match between WBA titleholder Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO) and WBC titlist Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO).

The show kicks off at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime in the U.S., and Sky Sports in the United Kingdom. Showtime will follow the boxing with Strikeforce MMA, making for a big night in combat sports.

It has been two years since the Super Six kicked of, and in that time span we've seen the super middleweight division change in a major way, and become far more noted as one of the sport's strongest weight classes. The 27-year-old Ward and 34-year-old Froch have risen to the top of the division thanks to the tournament, and tonight they put it all to bed, and decide the world's best super middleweight (unless you're a Lucian Bute supporter, anyway).

Along with the two sanctioning body titles and the trophy, the vacant Ring Magazine world championship is also on the line tonight.

Join us this evening!

I am so excited for this.

It’s just got the feeling of a special night.

On the undercard, Cornelius White currently looking pretty good against Despaigne. He’s got no defense, but clearly has some power, and has hurt Despaigne a few times with body shots. It’s quite a fight actually – worth catching.

This fight is a proper action fight.

Both guys cut, both hurting the other. It’s great stuff.

Going to be one of the sleeper fights of the year, methinks. Bloody hell, White is cut bad but he is working so hard.

This one might not go much further, but it's well worth catching.

Cornelius White might have blown a gasket throwing a ton of punches.

Despaigne’s mouth is wide open – body shots must have taken a serious toll – but White looks like he’s punched himself out.

Despaigne just goes through too many periods of inactivity.

Been one of his main problems since turning pro, really.

These five rounds have made a mockery of Despaigne standing at odds of 1/80 earlier.

I almost put down on White just on the basis that Despaigne can be so lazy. Might end up being upset that I didn’t, looking at the first five rounds!

Smoger trying to let them work out. Ward pops a left hook when Froch breaks free from a clinch. Jab to the chest from Ward. Tentative start. Both throw jabs, Ward’s lands. Froch jabbing to the body, now comes in with a right and misses. Crowd is getting loud, so they’re spirited at least.

Ward jabbing. Good jab from Froch. Fighting inside, Froch misses a wild swing, but not a bad idea. Froch’s nose getting red. Jab to the chest again from Ward. Body jab from Froch, one upstairs from Ward. Inside shot from Ward.

Ward vs Froch Round 2

Ward holding up inside, covering up, and lands as Froch gets out. Double jab from Ward and then a little hook. Ward presses him to the ropes, but doesn’t go after him. Uppercut from Froch, then a jab to the body. Ward with a left hook. Ward jabbing again. Froch is having some difficulty getting off much of note. Ward picking off Froch’s looping lefts. Froch to the body then whacked with a left hook. Ward with another hook.

Ward vs Froch Round 3

Ward comes in tight, clinches up a bit, and Froch just starts firing both hands to get away. Not a bad idea — keeps Ward from popping him on the way out, which has happened a couple of times.

Ward still jabbing nicely. Body work from Froch, those right hands are thudding in there pretty well. This is picking up a bit. Ward throws a right, doesn’t land clean. Ward with a couple left hooks and another jab. Froch with another right to the body. Carl is just plain being out-boxed. Another right to the body by Froch. They throw in close, Froch gets a couple little shots in. Ward with a jab. Left hook from Ward.

Froch is by no means being overwhelmed, I just think he’s being beaten. That body work is solid, but it’s all he’s got so far.

Froch looks extremely uncomfortable, shaking and trembling a bit out of frustration. Good body work by Froch, but Ward equalized the punches landed and hit with some nice left hooks and counter rights. (10-9 Ward, 30-27 Ward.)

Ward vs Froch Round 4

Uppercut from Ward. He’s stalking just a bit here and there. Good right inside from Ward. Froch shoots an uppercut, but doesn’t land. Froch is showing a bit more desperation inside now, and that’s a good thing for him. He’s having a lot of trouble with anything but the body.

Froch walks right into a stiff jab and feels it. Right hand from Ward. He’s really dominating in there this round. Right hand Ward. Ward with another hard shot. Froch is really getting run over this round. He looks like he just doesn’t know what to do, and he can’t get off. Ward gets him on the ropes. Froch with a left hook, but he clearly does not like this position. This is Ward’s territory — he killed Allan Green here.

Body shot by Ward. Ward with a left hook, Froch fires back. Froch trying to find distance. Ward has made him terribly uncomfortable this round. Froch popped with another left hook, an uppercut, and another left.

I’m genuinely falling for Ward for the first time here. Ward vs Froch Round 5

Left hook stings Froch hard about 15 seconds into the round. Right hand, left hook. Ward taking over in a big way. Ward looks perfectly prepared — they really scouted Froch well. Froch throwing, but almost never leading. Froch making a charge, goes 0 for 5 on a sloppy rush. Ward with a hard left hook to the body. Not as big a round for Ward, but definitely in his favor. Jab from Froch. Froch torws a right, but Ward lands two hooks. Staredown at the bell.

He was talking about the purses the fighters will get. He said Ward will get $900,000. Than he multiplied it with 7.3 to get the swedish currancy (SEK) and came up with the result of 65,000,000! Then he said Froch would make 6 or 700,000 USD, multiplied that with 7.3 and ended up with 73,000,000.

Chopping right from Ward. Ward is simply making Froch look second-rate most of the time here. And that’s not easy — Froch is not second-rate.

Right hand to the body by Froch. Left hooks are just eating Carl alive, though. Jab from Ward, he holds it there, and then he comes down with a right that Froch can’t see. Right hand from Froch. That’s coming on a little bit. HARD right to the body from Froch, and then a good left hook from Ward. And then a big one lands after! Man, Froch is tough.

Another short left hook in close. Froch lets his hands fly. Right hand Froch, BIG left hook Andre Ward! This is getting pretty good.

Jab from Ward, then he’s out while Froch is considering throwing back. STIFF right hand from Ward. Froch just can’t beat this guy. It’s become a lot less than close at this point. Ward vs Froch Round 9

Ward physically dominating even more. Froch still fighting, but he’s getting muscled now. Ward bullies as well as anyone in the sport. Anyone. Good right from Froch! He’s landing some good shots this round. He’s getting some range here and there and throwing what he’s got. Ward with a left hand as they trade wild shots. Froch resets, jabs him. Froch knows what this is: He’s coming as hard as he can. Ward goes southpaw.

Froch misses a right hand. Right hand Froch. Ward should stop with the southpaw.

Ward vs Froch Round 10

Ward throws the hook, blocked now. Turning into a bit more a grueling fight now. Ward has taken his foot off the gas, but he’s landing shots enough to stay even. Body shot lands from Froch, left hook from Ward gets in but not clean. Left hook from Ward, that one landed clean. Left hand again from Ward.

He’s got a lot of skills pinned down. Variety of defensive postures, brilliant feet set him up to shift from defending to attacking in a second, ridiculously good on the inside. He’s been tremendous to watch with a willing dance partner, and Froch has just never given up.

There is nothing that Carl Froch does better than Andre Ward. That has been made clear tonight. Ward is simply dominating this fight from every angle. Ward on his bike a bit, but Froch not letting his hands go even when he can. Ward slipping everything Froch does throw near the end of the round as Froch tries to steal one.

Froch pops him with a nice combo. Carl is going to throw. There’s a lead right from Ward — Froch has done that ALL NIGHT. Glanced over at his corner and gotten hit for it. A minute to go. Another right from Ward. Ward makes Froch miss, gets on his bike a bit, and he’s looking at the clock and counting it down. left hook from Ward as Froch is throwing. It’s over.

Carl still genuinely believes he can beat Andre Ward, but magnanimous in defeat.

Ward: “No hard feelings, man.” Froch: “None at all. … You won the fight, simple as that.” Ward: “You’re gonna be champion again.”

Froch will be

He’s certainly at least the third or fourth best SMW in the world, and doesn’t seem to be getting worse. Froch beats the living crap out of Stieglitz though, and he probably beats most of the guys in the latest generation as well. I’d love to see Froch-Rodriguez, and I think it would be an awesome fight, but I also think Froch would beat the tar out of him.

Class Act

But i have rarely if ever heard a fight, in this case Froch, admit that he was defeated clinically by a better fighter.

Ward ran a clinic on an inferior boxer and totally took away his A, B and C game.

Props to the champ.

Ward/Bute is obviously the best fight out there at 168. No doubt. Lots of fights I’d like to see out of both men still. If Ward goes with another defense first (can’t imagine he’ll really fight his friend Dirrell) instead of Bute, I guess I could handle that. I’d just want a decent enough fighter. Might also be interesting to see if the lack of belts for Dawson and the money at 168 present right now gets him to finally drop in weight.
