Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

According to the Daily Mail, within a day after losing the Super Six final to Andre Ward, Carl Froch and Lucian Bute have agreed to a two fight deal where the fighters would meet once in Montreal and once in Nottingham. Under the deal, Bute would get 100% of Canadian money, Froch would get 100% of the UK money and the rest would be split 50/50. If true, this continues Froch's run against top level competition dating all the way back to his title eliminator against Jean Pascal, while this may help silence some of Bute's critics who claim he has been avoiding top fighters. As for Andre Ward, he reportedly has said he would not fight Bute in his next bout, which opened the door for this series.

FWIW

I think this could be a hell of a style matchup. Against Ward, Froch proved he won’t stop throwing against a slick stalker, and Froch has a lot of the attributes that troubled Bute against Andrade and Magee, but is a better fighter than either one. This is all over the UK news, but I still haven’t seen verification from the Interbox team, so we’ll see if this is actually on the way. If it is, it seems like a wise way of going about it, although they’ll need to work out the revenue situation a bit more, so that it splits up and gets held in escrow or something in case the second fight doesn’t happen.

That the first fight will be in Canada?

If it does make it to Nottingham. Oh lordy lord I cannot wait!

Still would favour Bute

Said it after ButeVJohnson. Favour Bute quite heavily tbh but it will still be a fantastic night.

Wow...

this is big. What does this mean for Ward though? Anthony Dirrell?

Not sure what immediately

But Kessler still supposedly has a huge offer on the table for a rematch in Denmark. I suspect one gimme type fight (maybe Dirrell), then a Kessler rematch. Ward now holds two belts (I believe), so he very well could drop one of them to avoid facing a mandatory.

This could be something. I think Froch should have the Nottingham fight first as he’s been all over the road and Bute gets home fights all the time. Froch was outclassed, but didn’t look bad by most measures. Looks like a good fight.
