Felix Sturm vs Martin Murray: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage
Today at 4:45 p.m. EST on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom and SAT1 in Germany, WBA middleweight titlist Felix Sturm will defend his belt against British challenger Martin Murray at the SAP-Arena in Mannheim.
Sturm (36-2-1, 15 KO) is looking to make his 11th successful defense of the title that he regained in April 2007 by defeating Javier Castillejo, and his second straight defense against a visiting British foe.

Murray (23-0, 10 KO) is taking a big step up in class from the likes of Nick Blackwell and Carlos Nascimento, and is a pretty strong underdog on the sportsbooks, and in the minds of boxing fans.

It will be a single-fight broadcast on Sky Sports, as the undercard has nothing of major interest, and we'll be watching the Sky broadcast.
Join us this afternoon as we kick off a heavy slate of round-by-round coverage this weekend, during which Bad Left Hook will have live coverage of five separate events, including Cotto vs Margarito II and Mares vs Agbeko II on Saturday night.

Might not be able to do proper round-by-round here, but I will have the fight on and obviously everyone watching has a place to talk about the fight. Cotto vs Margarito weigh-ins start at 5 p.m. EST and that takes first slot over this fight.

Hopefully there’s some serious fuckaround time before the fight since we’ll need about a half hour.

Spencer Fearon just tweeted to say he’s hearing Rios-Murray could be off…

Nothing stated yet, but as far haven’t seen any tweets to corroborate what Fearon’s said…

Yeah there’s nothing else at all. Nobody’s said anything and there have been no rumors from either side.

I usually wouldn’t, but Cotto vs Margarito weigh-ins > Sturm vs Murray in terms of public interest. That’s just the way it is.

Sturm has a much bigger head.

Looks like there’s going to be a healthy amount of time to kill. Hoping Sturm dicks around in the locker room like he loves doing.

This could be a decent fight, albeit a little one-sided (on the scorecards at least).

Since when!?

Unfortunately can’t watch the fight, but will be keeping in touch via the round-by-round! Cheers all, have a good one.

Round 1 in the books. Murray not doing badly, but not pressing a ton either.

20-18 Sturm.
Murray needs to change something fast, Sturm will just keep putting these rounds in the bag.
Still searching for an alive Dan Tucker.
Rios overweight, for those who are missing that
136.4 the first try (he was naked immediately)
135.6 the second try
Does not look good at all. Dried out, gaunt. Ugh.

he’s got an hour to lose .6 pounds. He probably will, but he looks REALLY bad. Told he “looks like a ghost in person,” and he looked terrible on the stream.

Will John Murray be able to outlast a dried out Brandon Rios? He has a huge gas tank, as long as his chin holds up he has a huge shot.
Still searching for an alive Dan Tucker.
Murray just became a really live dog. I can’t overstate this: Rios looks BAD.

Why oh why
does Murray just stand there and let Sturm use his best weapon, jabbing his head off?
Move to the side or something for crying out loud.
Sturm’s doing enough to win the rounds, not doing enough to get the stoppage. Seems like its en route for a shutout.
Still searching for an alive Dan Tucker.
Sturm seems to have some stamina issues in recent fights.

I honestly think it’s just his breathing making it look worse than it is. He really sucks in some air.

MM letting his hands go more. FS going to the body. Right lands for MM. FS backs up as MM looks to be bossing this round. MM back on the ropes covers up well. both trade a few right hands. MM getting through with the jab. good round for MM
10-9 MM

Murray not making a poor showing, but Sturm seems in control. Apparently German TV hates Felix Sturm.

Sturm
seems to be letting Murray back in.
With the way he’s been in his last two fights, Sturm must be nearing the end.
Man, Murray is showing something serious here.

I honestly missed it, I just saw the warning and was wondering if Murray did something devious like step on his foot.

FS back with the jab before covering up. brief hold as MM is on the ropes again. he needs to stay off the ropes. FS snaps MM head back with a jab. MM unloads but no damage caused. body shots from MM. MM warned for shoving.

MM looking good when off the ropes and bossing the fight when he lets his hands go. FS again backs MM onto the ropes. MM won’t be winning these rounds despite throwing alot more punches. FS ends with a double jab, both getting though

uppercut gets though for MM. FS backs him up again with a series of jabs. right hand lands for FS. MM dropping the workrate, but then he unloads a good combination and gets warned for some reason again. MM gets through with another right round the side. decent second half of the round for murray

Not quite “Fanman” but definitely original.
If it were in an arab country it might have been a shoe.
Like with Matthew Macklin, this fight will no doubt raise Murray’s profile on the world scene a bit.
Murray v Macklin could be a good fight down then line i reckon.
Murray is surprising me for sure. Sturm is definitely slowing down, but like the Macklin fight, still is a good fighter. Murray came to win, and I’m loving it.

strong start from FS but MM fires back. MM seems to have a little more energy saved up here. MM is really looking good in here, but sitting on the ropes will probably cost him here. MM might have took that he started and ended well
10-9 MM
106-103 FS
From what I’ve been able to give close attention, I believe I would have the same card as boxingpete. The rounds I’ve seen closely, we’ve scored the same.

Both fighters need a strong final round. FS gets through with a good flurry as they both open up, great work by MM but FS returns fire. FS throwing uppercuts and a good right gets through. FS can’t hurt MM he just keeps firing back. FS with a big flurry at the end. That was a really enjoyable fight. MM can be very proud of himself tonight.

Sarcastic comment of the evening:
Jim Watt is not at all biased towards Brit fighters.
You would think Sturm hardly landed a punch to listen to Watt.
Man, I want Felix Sturm back in the U.S. to fight Andy Lee or JCC Jr. Sturm makes damn good fights now and I think both would be terrific.
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
I don't think he won it
but Murray deserves an enormous amount of credit for it. This was a huge ask considering his lack of real fights to this point.
Barker v. Murray
I’m actually excited about that fight, if it can happen.

I didn’t see the first few rounds, but I think that based on what I saw, Murray nicked it. He lost the last round, though.
Didn’t see the fight, good for Murray. I thought he’d make it close but didn’t think he’d get the decision in Germany.

Draw? Come on now. Close fight. But I thought it was pretty clear cut Sturm won it. But whatever
All of it. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. I want it all.
