Mares vs Agbeko 2 Odds: Lines Tight For Big Bantamweight Rematch, Mares Slight Favorite

Abner Mares is a very mild favorite on four of the five sportsbooks we track for our boxing betting odds, and on one of them, both he and challenger Joseph Agbeko are each at -115 for their highly-anticipated rematch tonight on Showtime, from Anaheim's Honda Center.

Back in August, Mares, who was then the challenger for Agbeko's IBF belt, was actually a bigger favorite than he is this time around. That first fight was debated not just because of Russell Mora's incompetent performance as the referee, or because of Mares' low blows, but because some felt that Agbeko had deserved to win the fight anyway, in spite of all that.

Mares (22-0-1, 13 KO) still has something to prove to a lot of people, including, it appears, the world's gamblers. Agbeko (28-3, 22 KO) was picked to win this fight by four of our eight staff prognosticators, and one of us (yours truly) who picked Mares predicted that it would be, let's say, controversial. This is a real deal, great matchup.

I think that Agbeko is smarter; he started to figure out Mares in the first fight, and I think he will in this one. Mares doesn’t change, and Agbeko will benefit.

Mares will foul; this may or may not result in point deduction.

Agbeko by decision.
