Viloria vs Segura: Video Promo From Integrated Sports PPV
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME DUBSTEP??? TURN YOUR SPEAKERS UP REALLY LOUD AND CLICK PLAY.
WHILE I REALLY LIKE THIS FIGHT, THIS PROMO VIDEO ABOUT BLEW MY MIND BECAUSE MY SPEAKERS WERE UP TOO LOUD LISTENING TO A LOW-VOLUME VIDEO BEFORE, AND I JUST WASN'T PREPARED FOR THIS.
OK, but seriously.
Viloria vs Segura will be available on Dish Network for $29.95 and apparently there was going to be an internet option, but I haven't heard anything about that yet.
Also if you missed our full TV schedule for this week, since it went up late Tuesday, click here for that.
Who do you like here? Segura is the biggest puncher from 112 on down, and pound-for-pound one of the hardest punchers in the sport, and I think he deserves to be the favorite here given Viloria's past inconsistencies and overall weirdness. But Viloria, when he's on, can really fight.
And either way, I expect this to be a good one.

I think Viloria makes a mistake and gets caught...
and with Segura, one mistake may be all it takes.
This is going to be a great fight. Viloria was given a ton of chances, but finally made something out of it.
He was a two-time titlist at 108 before winning the belt at 112.

I think he’s referring to the fact that Viloria was being positioned as Top Rank’s new Carbajal before he lost to Romero and Sosa.

“Viloria was given a ton of chances (indicating his failures) but finally made something out of it” — he had made something of chances years ago. He’s in no better position now than he’s been in ever before. He holds a belt. He’s held them before.

My thought is that the fact that we’re seeing this fight on an Integrated Sports PPV from the Philippines is indicative of the fact that Viloria hasn’t made the most of his chances over the years. JMHO. Also, he’s never been put in position where he’s fought a guy this well regarded before. Some people like Archie, but no one considered him a beast that shredded human beings. That’s pretty much where Segura is (and why I expect him to ultimately win).

What was Viloria ever going to be on American TV at 108/112 pounds? These guys are lucky to even get on Integrated Sports PPV these days. There’s no market here for the fights.

As I said before: The obvious comparison point was Carbajal. Both were American flyweights who hit pretty hard and had Olympic experience to put on the posters and in pre-fight hype. Viloria may never have been a monster draw but he probably could have carried the occasional Showtime or HBO event and sold some tickets, just like Carbajal once did at the Great Western Forum. That’s what Top Rank wanted him to be and positioned him to become, and when he lost repeatedly in high profile TV bouts, he got jettisoned and now he’s stuck being an import in the Philippines selling fights.

What posters? What pre-fight hype? Where could Viloria have built a fanbase similar to what Carbajal enjoyed at the Great Western Forum? It’s not the same era. It’s not the same promotional model.
What high-profile TV bouts did Brian Viloria lose? Or even have? He’s lost three fights. One to Carlos Tamara, one to Omar Nino (two, of course but one a NC), one to Edgar Sosa. None of them were high-profile fights in the States, unless we have a drastically different idea of what a high-profile TV fight is. His highest-profile fight was the drug test NC against Romero on the Pacquiao-Morales III undercard.
If Top Rank was positioning him to be Michael Carbajal, and not just going, “This Vilorier kid could be like Carberjarlerrr,” they were doing a poor job of it.
And going back to the original quote that neither of us made that we’re arguing over, what has he "made of" his chances that he hadn’t "made" years ago?

Among the same sort of Filipino fanbase that Manny Pacquiao sells a lot of tickets to in California?
The Tamara fight came after he was jettisoned from Top Rank. He was the headliner of the debut episode of Top Rank’s Versus series with the fight Nino fight, which he lost. They gave him a second shot at getting the title back against Romero again and he managed only a draw on that Morales PPV (later changed a NC). Since Romero pissed hot for meth, they gave him another shot at redeeming himself, and you get the Sosa fight where he once again loses, and he doesn’t last long with Top Rank from there.
Since then, he’s basically been off the radar as far as American fans go because he has the reputation of coming up short in big fights and has no promoter here. Before those losses, pretty much all his fights were televised through some channel; either as undercard attractions for PPVs or on ESPN2. It just isn’t historically accurate to say he wasn’t actively being promoted or that there was no hope for him to do anything greater on the American stage.
If you want to know what I think he “made” of those chances in recent years; well, he actually managed to win what was for him, I think, the biggest fight of his career period post Top Rank against Archie Solis. It probably created a market that he could fight out of and be able to make money and also draw other top fighters in with that replaced the US one that Top Rank was trying to establish to a great degree. Yeah, he lost to Tamara and that isn’t good or anything, but at least he did so in an enthralling way instead of just getting outboxed and looking lost in the ring. And he rebounded with a title win after that too.

So,
and I apologize for my lack of knowledge, does one have to own a dish to get this fight—
No ordering it on cable PPV?
Probably going to be an internet ppv on Integrated Sports PPV, not certain yet. Google Integrated Sports PPV and follow the prompts if it’s going to be broadcast that way. I’m hoping to watch it, not sure yet about availability.
