Bob Papa and Roy Jones Jr. of HBO look at the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana fight on April 9. Well, Roy looks at the fight. Bob sets him up. Roy is either doing a hearty sell job or he hasn't seen Morales in years. Roy musta forgot. Or maybe he's right and it'll be "a beautiful fight." I hope he's right, for the record.

Roy is in as much denial about the state of Morales’s career as he is his own.

and that's coming from someone
who absolutely, positively loves Roy. He’s the reason I got into this sport and I hate the fact that he’s still fighting and that he appears to be already showing the signs of the toll his career took on him (see recent stories about his bad balance).

He’s a company man trying to sell the PPV. Do you expect him to get in front of a camera and blast HBO for a night that has high potential to be watched through hands over the eyes? Also, why doesn’t Jones just go to Heavyweight and beat up on the tomato cans and bus drivers (shout out to Don From Prov) currently residing there? Just a thought…

Lampley and Merchant do something like that for about 70% of these things.

Because he can’t take a punch anymore. Even lousy big guys would put him on his ass now as soon as they found him, and he ain’t that hard to find anymore.

This is very true, however, Lampley and Merchant have roots growing in their chairs whereas Jones is a young pup in the announcing game.
Well that and Roy’s a fighter first, a self-publicist second, and well-versed in the art of B.S. I’m not offended by Roy. I mostly just find it funny. Also it wouldn’t surprise me if he hasn’t seen Morales fight in years. A lot of people haven’t.
