Boxing Breakfast: Nate Campbell in Moscow, Raul Martinez Cancels on Mijares

The rankings post will be up at some point today, but not as early as usual. Plenty of movement at 108 pounds, but nothing else. Today's breakfast will be a little short, so feel free to use this as an open thread for whatever's on your mind -- boxing-related.

Campbell to Join Roy Jones Jr.

Nate Campbell will reportedly fight in Moscow on May 21, on the undercard of the Denis Lebedev-Roy Jones Jr. card. I guess the Russians just can't get enough of faded American stars. No opponent has been named for Campbell, who at age 39 has lost three straight. He last fought on April 9, losing a decision to Danny "Swift" Garcia on the off-TV undercard of Morales-Maidana.

Raul Martinez Out of May 14 Fight With Mijares

Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com reports that Raul Martinez has pulled out of his May 14 fight with Cristian Mijares. That was a really good fight, too, damn it. Martinez (28-1, 16 KO) submitted photos of a cut on his nose suffered in training.

Fight Chatter

  • Jorge Linares' May 28 fight will be against Colombia's Francisco Cordero (24-1, 19 KO). The only remotely decent opponent Cordero has ever faced is Jorge Solis, who stopped Cordero in six.

I just can't get it out of my head. Rest in peace, Sir Henry.

Joan Guzman continues to leave his mark on Nate Campbell, eventhough they never traded punches. Nate’s nowhere near what he used to be, but he’s not quite done yet. I saw most of the Garcia fight on RingTV and eventhough Nate looked fat at WW, he was extremely unlucky to get worse than a draw against an unbeaten prospect. Gotta wonder though, if there going to schedule a journeyman or a home grown prospect/contender against Nate in Moscow?
