Boxing Breakfast: Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek Stare at Each Other

This isn't nearly as creepy and weird as the Wladimir Klitschko vs David Haye extended staredown, but man, nobody in boxing stares quite like Vitali Klitschko. Wladimir has been light-hearted and even funny during the Haye build-up. Vitali isn't mean or scary, really, he's just clearly a man not to be trifled with.

Fight Chatter

  • Ricky Burns' July 16 super featherweight trinket defense will be against Nicky Cook. It's almost as if Burns and Frank Warren are purposely avoiding a tough challenge.
  • In case you happened to miss the news, Showtime will air the Mikkel Kessler comeback against Mehdi Bouadla on tape delay on June 4, which means you'll sit through that before they get to Froch vs Johnson. I'd rather just see the Zsolt Erdei vs Dawid Kostecki fight on that undercard personally. Also on the NJ undercard: Allan Green vs Dhafir Smith (the nobody who beat Jeff Lacy in December), Edison Miranda, and J'Leon Love.
  • A proposed June 4 fight between Marco Antonio Rubio and Jairo Jesus Siris is every bit as big a joke as the Colombian boxing commission says, and that's why they're asking the WBC to cancel the fight. Rubio (50-5-1, 43 KO) is in line for a middleweight title shot with the WBC, but Siris (19-15-1, 18 KO) hasn't fought since 2009, isn't any good, and doesn't have a license to box because of health reasons. The WBC has really got to intervene here.
  • Former British super middleweight champ Paul Smith wants to fight Darren Barker or Martin Murray.
  • Michael Grant is looking for "courageous" heavyweights to fight him.

Tuesday was Bob Dylan's 70th birthday. He is in my opinion the greatest songwriter of all time. Here are three of my favorite Bob Dylan covers.

I think you could take away “it’s almost as if” there. What a joke. WTF has Cook done to deserve this?
3 bums in a row for paper champ Burns (who i don’t mind as a fighter but is not real championship material, imo)

I realise you were being diplomatic. :)

I know Nicky Cook isn’t really a bum, he’s been in with Steve Luevano and Roman Martinez, but he lost to both and is well faded. Burn’s won his title fair and square too but these “challengers” are just not of an even decent standard, imo.
What’s really wrong here though is that Cook is a Warren fighter, Warren is very cosy with the WBO and has got them to sanction a pretty bogus defence where Warren can’t lose, imo.
This could be a decent domestic level fight but, even though titles don’t mean that much nowadays, Warren is starting to take the piss a bit here.
Cook is not even in the WBO’s top 15 rankings.

Yea, I just looked at the WBO rankings (yes, it’s painful), and Cook is nowhere to be seen. I’m sure Warren’s deep pockets can get Cook a ranking soon.

I read the Grant link…….it’s his lawyer who used the term “courageous”; he and Ray Edwards manager should go on a double date and exchange delusional thoughts all evening.

lol

I don’t necessarily mind the Burns-Cook fight because I like Nicky Cook, its a decent payday and a relatively soft defense for Burns, who lets not forget was a huge underdog against Martinez, so why go out there and find the toughest defense possible straight off. If he wants to milk it for a few fights good luck to him. Maybe after this defense I might get a bit twitchy for something more.

It’s not gonna get him any respect though.

Warren

and even Burns are no doubt aware of his limitations though, so, like you say, he’s gonna try and make some money.
I just wish he could do it without calling himself a " world champion".
In fairness to him, it’s not like he’s the only one doing it.

yeah, its pretty common

I can see how its frustrating for many that he doing it, and maybe I’m growing cynical but I wouldn’t rush either.

It’s his third defence against an undeserving challenger. He’s definitely milking the cow dry now.
Hopefully his next fight will be worth one of the other belt holders.

Well the other titleholders are Mzonke Fana, Takashi Uchiyama and Takahiro Ao, so don’t hold your breath.

Just watching that difference in size and – apparently – determination increases my doubt if that`s going to be anything you could really call “competitive” in september. Let`s hope that the stories about the size of Adamek´s heart are true.
