I had heard a lot about this former World Amateur Champion and Olympic Silver Medallist from Kazakhstan (now residing in Germany) and have seen some clips of his recent pro fights but i didn't realise he was held in quite such high regard as a pro as this article by Doug Fischer portrays him. The article is mainly a report on a recent sparring session between Golovkin and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez:

It's not only Fischer singing his praises either, but trainers and other boxers who have seen him go to town on some well known fighters in the gym. He beat Lucian Bute by KO in the amateurs and also has wins over Andre Dirrell and Andy Lee in the unpaid ranks.
I look forward to seeing this middleweight, with a current record of 20-0 (17), fighting the likes of Dimitry Pirog and, hopefully, when he's ready, Sergio Martinez.
