Report: Floyd Mayweather Jr Splits With Leonard Ellerbe

Fightnews.com is reporting that Floyd Mayweather Jr and longtime business partner Leonard Ellerbe have parted ways, according to "several confidential sources."

Mayweather, 34, has not fought since May 2010 and in that time has made headlines mostly for troubles with the law. The undefeated superstar's other headlines have come from the fact that he and Manny Pacquiao still haven't fought one another, and there have been recent rumors -- which seem light at this point -- of Mayweather returning in September to fight Victor Ortiz.

It seems like a lot of Mayweather's old inner circle might be coming apart. While Floyd makes videos at FightHype and hangs out with 50 Cent and posts on his Twitter account and gambles on basketball games, his boxing career seems more and more messy. He says he hasn't spoken with his uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, in months, despite Roger's claims that Floyd would fight this summer at Cowboys Stadium (claims denied by the fighter). And if the split with Ellerbe is true, that's big for Mayweather.

Ellerbe has in the past been criticized for being essentially a hanger-on -- and Floyd's father had harsher, stupider words for him in the past -- but he has undeniably been a big part of Mayweather's team for years now. Ellerbe was last in the news during the most recent failed Mayweather vs Pacquiao negotiations, claiming that no negotiations had taken place, which was wildly untrue.

My thoughts are with Leonard in what, I am sure, are very trying times.

I’ve had dogs who suffered from separation anxiety, and it’s no joke. If Ellerbe starts tearing up upholstery and pissing up the place, we’ll know why.

Never thought much of that Ellerbe cat anyway.

All he does is hang out, laugh and agree with Floyd, and then spout off jibberish when a mic is in front of him. I doubt many people care much about him, let alone know who he is.

The boxing writer Stephen Edwards had predicted or intimated that Floyd’s entourage would not only start to unravel but that stories would emerge from various members if things continued as they have been.

I hav no idea if Edwards had unique knowledge or just instincts but I remember reading it and thinking that it made sense.

Now we’ll all see what happens. So far, none of it is good for Floyd. Or boxing.

It’s not really hurting boxing. Without losing a single fight, FMJ marginalized himself into irrelevancy. This whole spring and early summer the fights. both marquee and low key, have been a pure pleasure, a series of wonders. That’s what losing Floyd did for boxing. I hope he crashe, burns, and is completely forgotten about soon. And I think that’s just what’s happening.

Ellerbe's split from Mayweather.

It’s rather a late development. I always believed that the greatest stumbling block to why MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO mega fight has never seen the light of day was Ellerbe’s incapacity to tell Floydie what’s best for his boxing career. Indeed, Ellerbe was only good at being a mere hanger on. This dude, I guess, was the voice that counseled Floyd that a fight with Manny may spell the doom of his boxing career. And with it, his business viability. Floyd, being who he is, a man not necessarily intelligent with the intricacies of boxing match negotiations, just depended too much on a man who was only after the money he could collect. Plus, Al Haymon. Yes, this dude too. He was only actually gold digging from Maywaether’s colossal boxing earnings. If their team had only this most tenuous kind of relationship, then it is no wonder that it is now starting to unravel. The team was like a house, impressive and beautiful to look at, but actually was imploding inside due the decaying activities of termites. I mean, Ellerbe and Haymon are the termites in Mayweather’s house. Perhaps, once this will play out completely, when these men will be gone around Floydie, the fight every boxing fan wants, would finally transpire. Unless of course, Floydie will truthfully turn out to be what he is perceived to be, that is, A CHICKEN, A DUCKER AND A PLAIN COWARD.

or mayweather is Money no more.

At 34 years old, Mayweather is already losing his earning potential. This must be contributory to why these leeches around him are starting to disengage from him. I foresee that Mayweather will indeed be a pathetic sight not many years from now. His father’s premonition that he will one day crawl bankrupt is not after all far fetched. He is now trapped in a no win-win situation, all because of his total lack of true boxing grit. The name Pretty that he attaches to his name has now become truer than ever, i mean, he is practically pretty finished now. What a waste of a boxing wonder. Yes, this kid is supposed to be a boxing wizard. But time will pass him by WASTED.

Since Ellerbe denies, then Fightnews.com is an unreliable source ?

Well, we’ll know soon I guess …

No, Ellerbe in this instance is the unreliable source. His name is synonymous with “unreliable source.”
