Boxing Breakfast: Pacquiao vs Mosley Fight Week Approaches Climax

Our slew of live coverage for Pacquiao vs Mosley starts today.

Today's Coverage of Pacquiao vs Mosley

All times EDT.

  • Noon: The latest Pacquiao vs Mosley odds.
  • 2:30: Undercard preview.
  • 5pm: Live weigh-in results and coverage.
  • 6pm: Staff picks for Pacquiao vs Mosley.
  • 10pm: Friday Night Fights live results and coverage. I put this here since this is a Top Rank-promoted show on ESPN2 featuring Diego Magdaleno, Bernabe Concepcion and Mike Lee, but I figure this is going to be at least 25% infomercial for tomorrow's show.

We'll also have live coverage of Golden Boy's Solo Boxeo show on Telefutura at 11:35, main evented by Librado Andrade vs Aaron Pryor Jr.

Ryan Rhodes Talks About June 18 Fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez

Here's a five-minute interview with England's Ryan Rhodes, who is looking forward to his crack at Saul Alvarez on June 18. I still love, love, love that fight. Anyone who hasn't seen Rhodes in action should at least watch his 2009 fight with Brit warrior Jamie Moore.

Fight Chatter

  • Edgar Santana fought for the first time since 2008 last night, and stopped Robert Jones in the second round. Santana had become quite a popular fighter in NYC before his break.

I’ll be putting a Tenner on Rhodes. I know he’s the underdog, but with his tricks, angles, punching power and experience, I fancy him for it.

Tough order for Rhodes. I think the last Brit to win a title in Mexico was Stracey in the 70’s. The fact the arena is indoor is a good thing for Rhodes. Handling the outdoor heat in Mexico would be brutal.

I see the switch hitting style of Rhodes giving Alvarez problems early. But Alvarez’s youth and strength, combined with the location, will be too much for Rhodes to overcome.

Alvarez by TKO in 10 after a good effort by Rhodes.

Yeah,

that’s pretty much how i see it too.
Anyone who doesn’t want to watch the full fight should go to part 7 of the youtube clips to see the last round.
Rhodes will certainly give Canelo a different look to what he has seen before, imo.
He’s a bit of a slickster.

He’s got some slickness and he can bang a little. My only worry from his end is that he’s going to be really rusty and if Canelo brings the heat I think he could have problems.

I don’t like to try to cover all bases but i think i know what you mean.
Even though i said i see it ending similar to how DPlainview has it i could also see Rhodes being taken out within the first 6 rds for the reasons you mention.Him outboxing Canelo in stretches and surviving the full 12 wouldn’t suprise either. :)
If it was in England,or even America i would give Rhodes a bit more of a chance but would still pick the young lion Alvarez.
As it is,in Mexico it would be some monumental achievement for Rhodes to pull the shock upset off and prove most of us wrong…I hope he can but i seriously doubt it.

I’d never seen that fight. What a great fight. Rhodes/Alvarez would be interesting. I think SA would win it, but there’s room for doubt. He’s young and very strong, and fighting in Mexico. So he’ll win, but it will be a fight. And there’ve been a lot of surprises this year.

“with Chad Dawson (whose record of elder abuse is unmatched) running amok…”

God bless Carlos Acevedo. I’ve always imagined the ideal Chad Dawson fight as him knocking an elderly opponent out by punching them straight in the walker.

Good interview there with RR

by the way……For all his hyperbole Buncey gives Brit fighters a good platform to air their views and Ryan sounded quietly confident there.
Don’t ask Bunce for an unbiased opinion on a Brit fighter though, especially if it’s one of his pals… :)
In this case he’s got a point though…Ryan won’t be no gimme for Alvarez,to say the very least.

I love Bunce. His biases are clear, but it’s not like he tries to hide them, either. His passion for boxing is very evident. He is what I thought Max Kellerman could have been for American audiences, but unfortunately Kellerman seems consumed on TV by the idea of being Lil Larry Merchant.
