Tonight, one of boxing's grand events will be available through online means. Top Rank will be streaming a unique way to experience the event online for $54.99. Here's the trailer:
What I find very cool is that they're apparently going all out with making this a very different experience than the normal TV pay-per-view coverage. You can watch that feed, the Top Rank international feed, do lots of social media junk while you watch the fight, and it functions like a DVR, which is neat.
But look, I'm not being paid to shill this, so I have to be 100% honest here. Though I had heard that a different company would be powering this pay-per-view, NeuLion is apparently the company behind the stream. NeuLion will be familiar to fight fans as the company behind Top Rank's live streams of off-TV undercards, press conferences, weigh-ins, and the like.
The problem here is that Top Rank's live streams are notorious for crashing. One has to assume that Top Rank has taken extra measures to ensure that this pay-per-view will be stable, but from past experience both with Top Rank and with companies trying to stream content online who aren't prepared for the demand, I would proceed with caution if making this your choice tonight. That's my honest advice and I'm not going to lie about it. I hope for all the world that it goes well and this becomes an option for a lot of fights. It's great to see a company moving forward technologically. But said company's streaming history is not strong, and you can't get around that.
Best of luck to those who order this tonight, and I'd be interested to hear if anyone is planning to go this route.
