Pacquiao vs Mosley: Showtime Extreme Red Carpet Event Live Coverage

This evening's live coverage of the entire Pacquiao vs Mosley event will start at 7pm ET with the Red Carpet event on Showtime Extreme.

The show will be hosted by Mario Lopez of "Saved by the Bell," "Extra" and "The Golden Girls" fame, as well as Top Rank correspondent Ines Sainz.

Fighter interviews will be a big feature on the show, and there will also supposedly be some undercard fights featured as well. Hopefully we'll see blue chip prospect Jose Benavidez Jr. (10-0, 9 KO) featured if there are fights, and hopefully there are indeed fights and this doesn't wind up being two hours of Mario and Ines stumbling through boxing coverage.

The Pacquiao vs Mosley PPV coverage will start at 9pm ET here on Bad Left Hook. We will have separate threads for the three undercard bouts in one post, and the Pacquiao vs Mosley main event fight in another post, so hopefully no one will experience any lag later on. Those threads will go live at 7pm ET, just when this is starting.

Ines Sainz- awful, laughable, loveable. Every one of her interviews should be narm, but theres just something about her that transcends the narm and sells the interview as narm charm.

Weirdly, i went to my local boxing pub and asked the attractive barmaid to put the boxing on (expecting prizefighter to come on as most english pubs seem to only have sky for boxing). To my suprise Danny Mcintosh ended up making his way to the ring. I politely asked the annoyed barmaid to change it to prizefighter annoying half the pub that were getting interested in Danny Mcintosh. Please tell me that fight was a bore as I was quite disapointed with prizefighter tonight ( tho i will admit I missed the Tye Fields knockout)

Cote-Ambriz R1

Cote with a nice right early, and then another one but takes one back. Cote, of course, is the prospect here and he’s banging early. Ambriz swelling a little already. Ambriz trying to stay away a little bit, not a bad idea. Cote with a right to the body.

Cote 10-9

Cote-Ambriz R2

Cote swinging a right uppercut now. Cote with that stiff right, and another, AND ANOTHER and he’s beating the shit out of Ambriz in the corner. BAD body shots. Hot damn. That was quite a charge by Cote. Another right hand. Left hook lands hard. Cote with more body work. Totally dominating this round.

Cote-Ambriz R3

Ambriz sticking a jab into Cote’s face to try to deter him now. Cote’s jab is stiffer, though. I can’t imagine Ambriz lasts too much longer here. Cote is just ripping him when he feels LEFT HOOK, RIGHT HAND, DOWN GOES AMBRIZ! Ambriz back up and will fight on.

Cote ripping again, two right hands land. Left hook from down low. Cote is now clearly outclassing Ambriz and this has become a waiting game. Vic Drakulich picks his nose ringside.

Cote 10-8
Cote 30-26

Also, I can't believe the arena is literally EMPTY.

People spend all this money on their tickets and don’t want to get their money’s worth I guess. I’m more of an MMA head, and when I’m at a UFC event for the first prelim the place is about 30% full already, at least the hardcore fans are interested in seeing the up-and-comers and they don’t just show up en masse for the main event.

by Rob Young on May 7, 2011 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

I’m hoping for more shows like this, where a TV audience gets to see what goes down deep on the undercard. Fostering a culture that cares about these fights would be a big first step. These fights have just been buried forever. It’s really sad. You’d at least hope to get the place 15% or so full.

Obviously I don’t have the time to follow boxing as much as I want. But seeing an impressive performance by a guy like Cote that I’d never have seen without this show makes me want to see Cote fight again. That’s…that’s what helps a sport grow.

Benavidez-Hope R1

Benavidez with a stiff right as soon as he gets an opening. Left hook. Hope swinging wild, and I’m digging it. He’s here to fight. Hope with a right upstairs that lands a bit. Not the best opening round for Benavidez, to be honest, but I thought he landed the better shots. See where he turns it up here — I agree with Tompkins that it’s not bad that the kid is getting tested a bit.

Benavidez-Hope R2

Benavidez’s nose is bloodied after a little charge by Hope. The kid still needs defensive work, obviously. Hope is pressing the action and I like the way he’s dipping around. Benavidez rips away now when Hope showboats like a dolt. Benavidez turning it up now in the last 90 seconds to take this round under control. RIPPING body shot with the left hook by Benavidez. Right hand lands upstairs. Hope staggered! Left hook! Benavidez doesn’t go nuts, but starts stalking. Hope is hurting in there but staying up and staying away. Benavidez tags him a couple more times.

Boy, as soon as Hope pissed off Benavidez, this changed.

Hope seems a bit less confident in his ‘swag’ now. Body shot again. Benavidez starting to really knock Hope around and there’s a BIG right hand! (Someone’s gotta Lampley tonight. Why not me?) SICK right by Benavidez. Well Hope can take a shot, that’s for sure, because Jose can punch. Benavidez just beating the hell out of him, tagging the body and landing upstairs. Kind of surprised Vic Drakulich didn’t step in.

Benavidez controlling the action. I do like Hope’s overall effort here. Definitely not folding for Benavidez, which is more constructive than someone who’s going to crumble on many of these shots. Benavidez halfway takes the round off, but still wins it easily and lands some good shots.

Gallo trying to pressure but not really finding much but gloves in the first minute. Mayol lands, Gallo lands back. Right by Gallo. Gallo now pressuring more effectively as the round wears on, with Mayol trying to counter and letting Gallo get more open looks. Mayol shoots an uppercut and misses, but lands a left hook after.

Gallo still doing better work. Mayol just doesn’t look totally with it so far, at least offensively. No consistent attack. Left from Mayol. Mayol now turning it up a bit in the second half of the round, but Gallo just staying right on him. Two little uppercuts inside by Gallo. Pretty decent fight so far, and seems like it’s ready to really pick up in the third round as both start to warm up.
