In the opening fight of the Pacquiao vs Mosley pay-per-view, junior welterweight fringe contender Ray Narh quit in his corner just after the third round, conceding the bout to Mike Alvarado.
Alvarado (30-0, 22 KO) lost the opening round and looked very slow, but came on much harder as per his usual attack, winning the second and third rounds with some harder punches. Narh (25-2, 21 KO) was on his bike to a fair degree in both frames, not exactly looking eager to engage in any exchanges from that point on. After three, he looked mentally defeated, and indeed, it appears that he was.
Kevin Iole did report on Twitter about Narh coming into the fight:
Dr. William Berliner said Nahr has been vomiting and had diarrhea since yesterday and had no strength. That's why he quit.
Alvarado now might move back into more serious contention at 140 pounds. The one-time serious prospect has had his issues outside of the ring, but he's got power and he fights aggressively.
