Make Some Noise!

Most of us are bugged beyond words at the Alexander-Matthysse travesty, and feel pretty helpless to do anything about it.  And we probably are pretty helpless to do anything about it, but there's no harm in trying.   Plus, it may not be as hopeless as it feels--public officials, even appointed ones, don't like to look bad.  This is less true regarding those protests that come from beyond their constituencies, but even so, looking bad is looking bad.  And a state commission that doesn't take a long look at the scoring of that fight can't look good.  So here's a way to maybe put a little shame in their hearts, such that tho' not much may happen to "make whole" this catastrophe, maybe they''ll be a little more careful next time, always assuming anyone not local is silly enough to give them a next time.

It can’t hurt to raise some hell.  Most public figures take public perception at least somewhat seriously. The more people register dismay, the harder it is for them to ignore, bury, outlast it . Better than just whining about it.

This is all I can find so far, they’re very opaque:

awesome

that was a terrible decision … wasn’t even close to justifiable even factoring in heavy hometown bias.

Matthysse has been robbed in 2 recent fights now and Devon Alexander has been gifted 2 recent wins, as he should have lost the Kotelnik fight as well.

The reply may end up being an automated response saying they will look into it or an acknowledgment of receipt. That has been my experience in places like this.

Very good suggestion of Waldo47 on a related thread:

If you are writing in… Make sure to mention that you have some sort of connection to people currently living/voting in Missouri. Or if you are mailing the office of athletics mention that decisions like this make you less inclined to organize trips to Missouri to watch fights. Just make sure that you make it very clear that events like the one on Saturday have monetary consequences.

Thanks for jumping on this so quick BoxAnne. One other note about these commissions are that they are notorious for cronyism – a place to stash campaign contributors (and their friends and kin) with barely there and no-show bureaucratic jobs. Shining a light tends to make the cockroaches and rats scurry about if just to prove that they aren’t sitting there on their thumbs. At the very least it might spark an investigation, which is better than nothing and will remind them that they are being watched.

Even if we could get these commissions to question the judges more often, it would be a step. I really, truly think — and not just because of recent weird cards — that there has to be more accountability for boxing officials, both judges and referees. It’s just something that should be looked into regularly. It’s a job that impacts every fighter they call as a winner or loser. Mike Dallas Jr could have gone on to main event a FNF later. Instead, now what is he? A guy who almost surely will not get that opportunity.

Maybe write to ESPN2 & HBO

as well, in support of the fighters’ who’ve been, well, robbed. They can’t influence the judging, and there was nothing wrong with the Atlas-Tessitore response to the decision, but maybe enough fan mail supporting the jobbed fighter and expressions of longing to see Mike Dallas Jr. again, soon if possible would be some kind of help.

Re HBO, maybe more like complaints about lack of bias. With, however painful, full props to Merchant on this one. so they get the distinction. I’ll hunt for addresses.

I’m thinking cc’s to Governors too, Politicians are hypersensitive, and since the commission jobs are plums, maybe shake the tree.

You know the thing about the Compubox numbers is, I mentioned on the RBR thread that I wanted to score round 7 a 10-8 round for Matthysse. Compubox had it 27 to 3 total punches in favor of Matthysse, with 26 of those power punches. I do think that confirms what I saw, and revise my final score to 97-91, Matthysse.

And I tought that Matthesse was robbed against Judah, I will have to come up with stronger term for this one.

by LawrenceP on Jun 27, 2011 2:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I scored it 10-8 in the live thread; thought it was appropriate then, and this only confirms it.

Mine’s working right now, but sometimes it quits on me. It’s a pest, but I find if I return to the main page and then back to the thread, reply will then work. You’ll lose the orange highlighting of new replies tho, also a pest. Don’t know why it happens.

You never know. California promises to reply, probably a form letter. But somebody has to press “send”. If they find themselves doing it a lot, someone may notice. Gotta start somewhere, better than not starting at all.
