Bad Left Hook Live Results and Coverage: Yudel Jhonson vs Jose Miguel Torres on Friday Night Fights

Yudel Jhonson main events tonight's Friday Night Fights.

Tonight's edition of Friday Night Fights is live on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com at 9 p.m. EDT, and Bad Left Hook will be here with live results, commentary, and round-by-round updates and scoring.

The main event tonight is a 154-pound fight between Cuban Yudel Jhonson (10-0, 7 KO) and Jose Miguel Torres (21-4, 19 KO). Torres has a very empty record, but Jhonson is the showcase fighter. In March, he shared a FNF bill with countryman Erislandy Lara. Lara disappointed in a draw against Carlos Molina, but Jhonson showed his skills with a win over Richard Gutierrez.

The co-feature won't be the fight we listed in our TV schedule for this week, as that is now off the bill. Last I heard the new co-feature was to be Tyrese Hendrix (20-2-1, 9 KO) taking on Walter Estrada (38-14-1, 25 KO) in lightweight-or-thereabouts eight-rounder. Hendrix was seen last year on TV against Hank Lundy in what was a pretty entertaining scrap, and Estrada has been around the block over the years, facing the likes of Yuriorkis Gamboa, Scott Harrison, Mikey Garcia, Kevin Mitchell, Roman Martinez, and many more. He's a globetrotting journeyman who can punch a little and has often been a fine test for up-and-comers. In his most recent two bouts, he beat Nate Campbell and lost to Vicente Escobedo.

Join us tonight!

WHOA

First time I’ve sat down to watch boxing on the TV since I moved it forward about six inches on the stand. Freaky. (Boxing is the only time I sit on the couch and watch TV.)

Hendrix-Estrada R1

About once or twice a month now, we see two southpaws fight each other, and the TV commentator notes how rare it is. Both trying to feel each other out with the jab. Atlas points out that Estrada has stiff legs. And Estrada hurts Hendrix just a bit near the bell, so I barely nick the round his way.

Estrada 10-9

Hendrix-Estrada R2

Hendrix not reacting great to a little flurry from Estrada, but most of it doesn’t land anyway. Estrada is starting to look really old; physically I mean. Estrada with another left hand that lands. Right hook by Hendrix, doesn’t land clean. Jab from Estrada pops Hendrix’s head back.

Calling Estrada a featherweight contender in his past is a little…much. Estrada’s landing better shots and just controlling the action. Hendrix has really done nothing so far, and we’re talking about an eight round fight. He needs to pick it up.

Hendrix finally does a little, but then Estrada starts deterring him from doing more. Hendrix swinging from the outside. Not even close. Right hand from Estrada stings Hendrix a little. Nice body shot by Estrada, then goes upstairs and steps back out when Hendrix decides to open up in return. Good shot by Hendrix! Estrada to the body, then Hendrix pops him again upstairs. Hendrix really needs to get going and this is a good start to the round for him. Estrada still making the round close, and cracks Hendrix a little.

Jhonson tearing him right away, nice body shot. Torres walking into these combos because he’s not good enough to not walk right into him. Also he hasn’t fought in two years. I get the impression in one minute that Jhonson could finish this whenever he wants to. Torres is really slow of hand. Jhonson is not.
