Bad Left Hook Live Results and Coverage: Leo Santa Cruz and Luis Ramos Jr on Solo Boxeo Tecate

Tonight's Solo Boxeo Tecate starts at 11:30 p.m. EDT on Telefutura, and Bad Left Hook will be here with live results and coverage, scoring the fights with round-by-round updates.

It's a nice double-header tonight, with a couple of prospects taking on veteran tests. In the de facto main event of the evening, bantamweight prospect Leo Santa Cruz (15-0-1, 7 KO) takes on Jose "Carita" Lopez (39-9-2, 32 KO) in an eight-rounder. Lopez, 39, is a former 115-pound titlist who has lost a step or two after a pretty great run from 2002-09, while the 22-year-old Santa Cruz is starting to hit a stride. In his last fight, Santa Cruz knocked out Stephane Jamoye on a body shot in the sixth round.

The other featured eight-rounder is at 140 pounds, as southpaw Luis Ramos Jr (18-0, 8 KO) takes on clever vet Francisco Lorenzo (36-9, 16 KO). Lorenzo has been in the ring with Humberto Soto (twice), and recently lost a close fight to Erik Morales in Mexico. Over the years he's also shared the ring with Juan Diaz, Victoriano Sosa, and Jorge Linares, and has wins over Nate Campbell and Cristobal Cruz, beating Cruz on two occasions. Given that Ramos struggled his last time out, this could be a really tough go for him against Lorenzo.

Actually lesser proof (90 to Maker’s 94) but has a bit more bite. Also smoother in shots, IMO. What I’d really like right now is some Booker’s, but alas.

Makers is 94 proof? I thought it was 80 like Beam. My bad.

All sub-90 proof bourbons confuse me. Every year I wind up buying a fifth of Willie Nelson’s Whiskey River (86 proof) because I like Willie Nelson, but it always disappoints me. But I get a guitar pick, so, hey.

Knob Creek 9-years is a helluva good strong bourbon imho

Knob Creek used to not sit well with me for some reason, but I’ve grown to appreciate it a little more. I really love Baker’s and Booker’s. All of these bourbons make me sad that Jim Beam clearly knows what a good bourbon is, yet they make Jim Beam. Fucking population.

don't know if I've ever had Bakers before

the best bourbon I ever had was at a friend’s wedding in Louisville. The bride’s dad brought it out of his “secret stash” late night. Can’t recall the name though. Poppy something’s blah blah bourbon, or Papppy something maybe. Anywhoo…

Pappy Van Winkle? Brick recommended that about 18 months ago, then I moved here and the good liquor store had it, and it is without question the best bourbon I’ve ever had. I feel bad drinking it it’s so good.

that's the stuff

Now I want to go to the bourbon bar a couple neighborhoods over and see if they have it.

Every time the store gets a few bottles in, I wind up buying all of them. Nobody else pays $80 a fifth for bourbon except me, and it takes a while. There’s a $300 bottle of Pappy’s in the locked case, too. And a $120 bottle of Eagle Rare that I want to buy.

the stuff I had at the wedding might have been the 300 dollar kind

“special reserve” or whatnot. I just recall it had an incredibly rich and complex flavor, like a really good Pinot Noir, with all kinds of smoky chocolaty spicy undertones. Delicious!

Lopez keeping it real but Santa Cruz landing the more meaningful punches so far.

Santa Cruz would seem to have the dominant weapon with that jab, but Lopez is splitting his guard with inside combinations.

Santa Cruz still landing more significant work.

20-18 Santa Cruz.

Lopez going to the body with some success this round,

but Santa Cruz is fighting off the jab beautifully now. Good round. Solid action all around.

30-27 Santa Cruz.

Lopez taking some punishment now, but he's tough.

Both men having luck to the body, but Santa Cruz is more active, and his length and solid jab have been the story of the fight so far. Definitely the best fight of the night, even though Santa Cruz is pretty dominant.

40-36 Santa Cruz
