The war of words between Paulie Malignaggi and Devon Alexander's trainer/manager Kevin Cunningham continues to escalate, as Malignaggi has now started to wonder why Cunningham does all the talking for Alexander. From Rick Reeno:
"Kevin has a lot of balls bringing up me wearing skirts in a fight and trying to broadcast out that I have female traits. Out of the both of us, me and Devon, the one that was showing the most female traits, is the way Devon was screaming and yelling like a little bitch to the doctor, after the paper cut that Tim Bradley gave him. ... Kevin Cunningham needs to stop being a spokesman for Devon Alexander. If Devon Alexander really was a man, he would stand up for himself instead of hiding behind Kevin Cunningham."
Cunningham has always been Alexander's mouthpiece, at least for the most part, but he might be picking a verbal fight with Malignaggi that he has no chance of really winning. I mean, all he has, I guess, is that Paulie wears skirt-like trunks and he calls him "Paula." That has backfired. Next he might bring up the fights Paulie lost. Paulie surely counters with the fights Devon should have lost.
As for a potential fight, I'm interested enough, really, but not as a main event. It's just not worth a main event slot unless it's basically a co-main event with another good fight. But I'm sure if it's made HBO will be interested -- Paulie's popular, and Devon still just has the one official loss, and the talk by then should make it more attractive. Malignaggi is good at stirring up boxing fans.
Here's the latest from Malignaggi and Phil Lo Greco in Sicily. So far, I think this is the most pub that Lo Greco has received during his boxing career:
