Julio Cesar Chavez Jr's Next Fight: Ronald Hearns and Nobuhiro Ishida Rumored
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is scheduled to return to the ring on September 24 in Mexico, making his first defense of the shady WBC middleweight belt he won from Sebastian Zbik on June 4. Though names like Bryan Vera and Peter Manfredo Jr have been mentioned before, two lesser names are now being rumored: Ronald Hearns and Nobuhiro Ishida.
Hearns (26-2, 20 KO) was last seen in February, getting the snot beaten out of him by Felix Sturm in Germany. That title shot was undeserved, and this one would be even more so. The 32-year-old son of Thomas "Hitman" Hearns is arguably even further removed from his father's skills than his would-be opponent, and quite frankly just is not a good fighter. Obviously the idea would be to match the sons of a couple of legends, but these are not exactly chips off the old block.
Ishida (23-6-2, 8 KO) beat James Kirkland on April 9, which has made him a name chased by the likes of Paul Williams and even middleweight champ Sergio Martinez. He's really more Chavez's speed, and frankly on an even playing field, I could see Ishida outboxing Chavez and winning a pretty clear decision, but this wouldn't be neutral ground.
Since Hearns is the least good of the four names we've heard so far, put him in the lead. Can you imagine that, though? Ronald Hearns getting two bad title shots in one year, with his best career win being Delray Raines. I mean, titles are largely useless now and all that, but even still, that's super duper extra strength weak.

I knew it!!! I knew they’d match him with Ron Hearns eventually. Either that or Little Camacho.
Ah well, that’s boxing I guess.

They could at least do Lil Hearns vs Lil Camacho for the right to fight Lil Chavez.

I would laugh and laugh and laugh if Ishida actually won a decision against JCC Jr.

A decision I doubt
He’s have to behead him to win

Expecting Hearns
Just looked at the June WBC MW rankings…….Hearns isn’t even ranked in the TOP 40!
But lo and behold…….he suddenly appears as # 15 in the July rankings…..losing by KO to Felix Sturm must do wonders for your career. I hope Hearns wrecks Chavez……..but I’m sure they will DQ him if he does.
Ronald isn’t good but he did knock the hell out of Delray Raines. Sturm was just a massive ten classes above him, but Chavez is probably only three classes above him.

what a joke
Chavez Jr continues to pad his record. When’s he going to fight a legit, big named, threat instead of recycled guys who pose little risk. I am so tired of sorry-a** Chavez Jr.

Part of his exit strategy. Very smart move IMO

Sammlung...I hope that's sarcasm I'm hearing, because 98% of JC Jr's fights have been of the tuneup variety.

of course.
Of course he has to fight Hearns!!!…. no matter which are the boxing skills of Hearns, Jr will win the bout with a controversial majority decision.
HOW DOES HE LOOK AT HIMSELF IN THE MIRROR

He doesn't
Because the mirror is covered up by the piles of money.

I think we can safely say that it’s going to be Hearns and not Ishida. And that’s a poor choice of opponent – but as long as the fight isn’t taking up a date on HBO or Showtime, I don’t really care too much. Now if Chavez was a real talent, and each one of his outings was something I looked forward to… that would be a different story. But he’s not. He’s reached his peak as a fighter, and his future isn’t all that interesting. And as for his belt, I don’t care about that either. It’s just one of many that aren’t relevant.

Which is why he'll be able to fight such poor competition
He practically gets a free pass. The only top 25 fighter he’s faces is Zbik, who was very borderline top 10 (and I didn’t even have in my top 10 in a weak division).

Dont agree.
I dont agree at all, actually there are a lot of critics to his performance as a fighter, sure he has the protection of tv, but the fans dont love him,…not at all.
I´m mexican.
He fits very well into a fine tradition of warrior.
JMM, Barrera, Morales….all warriors who fought the best around. This guy is just like that. Oh, wait…..

Put him in there with Mayorga or Kirkland for shits and giggles.
