Bad Left Hook Live Results and Coverage: Burns vs Cook and Murray vs Mitchell

John Murray is part of a double main event today in Liverpool. (Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images)

Sky Sports is live at 4 p.m. EDT today with a nice card featuring a double main event in the 130 and 135 pound divisions.

At super featherweight, titlist Ricky Burns (31-2, 8 KO) puts his WBO trinket on the line against Nicky Cook (30-2, 16 KO) in an intriguing matchup that could land Cook his second major title. Cook held this belt before briefly, beating Alex Arthur, but lost it in his next fight to Roman Martinez, the man Burns unseated.

At lightweight, John Murray (31-0, 18 KO) has given up his European title to chase a major belt on the world stage, but will first have to deal with returning countryman Kevin Mitchell (31-1, 23 KO). Mitchell, 26, hasn't fought since a TKO-3 loss in May 2010 to Michael Katsidis, and since then has had a bad run outside of the ring, drinking his money away, while currently he's due up on some fairly serious drug charges. He'll try to put that aside and get his career back on the right track.

Also in action today: Welterweight prospect Frankie Gavin (10-0, 8 KO) faces Curtis Woodhouse (15-2, 10 KO), and light heavyweight Tony Bellew (15-0, 10 KO) faces Ovill McKenzie (18-10, 7 KO) for the second time.

Bad Left Hook will have live, round-by-round updates and scoring, with immediate post-fight analysis. Join us this afternoon for some UK fights!

I'll be watching the Huck fight

so I’ll tell you guys how that goes, also,I just found out that Arthur Abraham is returning to 160.

Yeah I saw that too. Good for him, I guess. I don’t think he beats any of the best fighters there either, but whatever.

Well if they do that, then I’m fine with it. Big fight in Germany, obviously. But I would like to see Macklin get his rematch first.

Kind of. Basically Wolak vs Rodriguez kept me awake against all odds and I passed out right after ShoBox for a while, then was up a while, and then got some real sleep. So I feel more "refreshed’ than anything today.

Bellew vs McKenzie Round 1

McKenzie slips early, both guys bouncing around and feinting a lot. McKenzie with a little charge, arms flailing, nothing really landing. Bellew gets off the ropes with one shot. McKenzie with a right to the body. Bellew looking to land at range, but he can’t get there. Nobody really landing much of anything so far.

10-10

I guess you could give it to McKenzie on activity but none of that shit landed.

Bellew vs McKenzie Round 3

I mean nobody is landing anything much clean. I’m tired of hearing about how this is “cagey” and how I “can’t blame them.” Whatever, man. I didn’t sign up to watch a “cagey” Tony Bellew fight. Shut it, Watt.

I’m sorry, but this is a crap fight so far.

Bellew 10-9
Bellew 30-29

I could have gone 10-10 again but McKenzie flailed less.

I think Bellew is landing all the clean shots………..not that’s not much

by DPlainview on Jul 16, 2011 4:29 PM EDT reply actions

I’m not watching, but I’m feeling remarkably smug that this one sounds like it’s going how I fancied. Bellew just isn’t very good and tricky fighters (I say tricky but McKenzie is more just awkward) are always going to be a nightmare for him.

Bellew vs McKenzie Round 4

HEY! It’s the same crappy round again. I guess Bellew is landing the better punches again. McKenzie is awful, to be fair to Bellew — I mean, Bellew isn’t very good either (Cleverly vs Bellew is rather laughable, to be honest), but McKenzie sucks. There’s a body shot from him though. And that’s it!!

After what Dafs just said, this looks dodgy

Maybe Cook knew he was injured this week so they bet on the KO.

by Matt Mosley on Jul 16, 2011 5:31 PM EDT reply actions

I would guess that someone on Cook’s team knew he wasn’t fit to fight and leaked the info – which lead to the big bets, fix rumors.

Disgusting. Blame should fall on both sides. Burns for even taking a fight with Cook. Who I guess earned it be going the distance with 8-33 fighter. And Cook for even getting in the ring. He knew he was hurt and limited. Why get in there? People there live paid money for a fight. Not a charade

Murray vs Mitchell Round 1

Mitchell does look here to fight, in decent shape and his arms look bigger than they used to, I think. Mitchell with nice, digging body shots, Murray right there to fight him. Wow: “Mitchell says with the help of his parents, he’s got it back.” He and his mom are up on drug charges right now. Come on.

Anyway.

Tangling inside, both wrestling with the arms. Good right by Murray, Mitchell back with an uppercut. Both throwing with intent. Already the best fight of the night. Good trade on the ropes! Murray with a right. Mitchell firing back nicely. Mitchell jabbing. Body shot by Mitchell again. Good start.

Murray vs Mitchell Round 2

Mitchell still looking sharp, landing nice shots. Nice right hand by Murray hurts Mitchell!! Mitchell dodging and trying to get his legs back, and he might have done it. Murray’s right is definitely chopping its way in there. Murray backing Mitchell down now, has him on the ropes and landing shots! Mitchell taking right hands, and ties up. Another right at the bell.

Murray vs Mitchell Round 3

Murray’s right hand is the key weapon so far. Mitchell is fighting well, but Murray’s pressure has been quite effective and he’s marching through Mitchell’s offense nicely. This is the best Murray has looked in recent fights, I think. He looks very sharp. I think Brandon Rios would braek him down within five (just because my mind wanders), but it would be a good toe-to-toe fight. Mitchell closes the round strong with some good shots, but it’s another to Murray. Good fight.

Mitchell hanging right there with Murray, nice combination of uppercuts. Some scrappy wrestling in close as neither is keen on backing down. Murray walking Mitchell down, Mitchell trying to find a little range. Good right by Murray, now he has Mitchell on the ropes.

Great uppercuts from Mitchell. Murray laying on the pressure constantly, though. Body shot by Mitchell. Right to the body by Murray, now trying to land upstairs but Mitchell moves hsi head nicely. Uppercut by Mitchell. Another one. Another one. That punch is money so far, a left uppercut. Right hand by Murray. Mitchell working off the ropes. Left hook and right hand from Murray. Left uppercut again by Mitchell. Murray’s right eye swelling up. They’re calling this round for Murray and I just don’t see it. Mitchell has banged him up pretty damn good this round. Murray is right there with him and doing fine work, but I tip this one to Mitchell despite Watt’s disagreement.
