Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer says that Floyd Mayweather Jr has indeed shown interest in fighting Amir Khan next year, after Khan has repeatedly stated his own ambitions to face Mayweather in the near future. Schaefer also outlined what he sees for Khan's next three fights. From The Daily Star:
"Floyd has told me he is very interested in meeting Amir in the ring next year. ... The plan would be for Amir to have another fight in December, in the US again, possibly against Erik Morales. He could then perhaps have a big UK battle, possibly against another Brit, Kell Brook, before moving on to face Mayweather."
Khan (25-1, 17 KO) is being booked pretty ambitiously in this scenario, particularly the risky, somewhat low-reward idea to fight current UK press rival Kell Brook (24-0, 16 KO). Khan vs Brook would be a pretty big fight in the UK, but Brook to date has basically no name in the US, where Golden Boy is mostly booking Khan. To get Brook a name in the US, he'd have to come over and fight someone significant on HBO or Showtime.
I'll also admit I'm a bit sad to see that Golden Boy is not giving up on the idea of matching Khan with Erik Morales, because that's just not a fight I find particularly interesting. Morales is still a tough fighter, but the style matchup seems all wrong and destined to make a one-sided fight that just doesn't turn out to be all that entertaining. I know he got a great reaction for his performance against Marcos Maidana, but the previous fights in his comeback weren't quite so impressive.
