Tonight's edition of Friday Night Fights is live at 9pm EDT from the US Airways Center in Phoenix on ESPN2, ESPN3D and ESPN3.com. Bad Left Hook will be here with live, round-by-round coverage, and immediate post-fight analysis.
The main event is a super middleweight bout between hometown fighter Jesus Gonzales (26-1, 14 KO) and Francisco Sierra (24-3-1, 22 KO). Gonzales was originally supposed to face Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan, but instead takes on a bigger, taller, harder-punching opponent. Last week on Friday Night Fights, we saw Top Rank prospect Mark Melligen take on Sebastian Lujan as a late replacement for Freddy Hernandez, a matchup we warned could spell doom for Melligen, and it did. Like Lujan, Sierra looks like a step up from the originally scheduled opponent, and with his power could be real trouble for Gonzales, who is just getting back into the swing of his career after a two-year absence.
The co-feature will have Cleveland super featherweight prospect Yaundale Evans (14-0, 10 KO) matched with Mexican veteran Emmanuel Lucero (26-6-1, 14 KO) in a very respectable step up for the 22-year-old Evans, who has dined on fluff thus far in his young career.
