Bad Left Hook Live Results and Coverage: Brandon Rios vs Urbano Antillon
Tonight, U.S. boxing fans have head-to-head shows from Showtime and HBO, and Bad Left Hook has chosen Showtime's double-header thanks to should-be war of a main event in the lightweight division. Those who are going to watch the HBO show live, we've set up a separate thread for you, too. Please do not post HBO "spoilers" in this thread.
The main event features Brandon Rios (27-0-1, 20 KO) defending his WBA belt against Urbano Antillon (28-2, 20 KO) in a matchup of hard-charging brawlers who have a great habit of making for excellent fights. There is basically no way that this fight isn't a good one.
There's also an interesting co-feature, as spoiler Carlos Molina (18-4-2, 6 KO) gets a chance on one of the big two networks by taking on the returning Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO). Cintron has been inactive for 14 months and really hasn't been in a fight of any length in almost two years, and rust could be an issue against the tough, capable, somewhat tricky Molina. This is Cintron's debut for Top Rank, and he's hoping to make a good impression and stand in line for a shot against one of the bigger fighters in the company.
The fights start on Showtime at 10 p.m. EDT. Join us for what promises to be a hell of a night at the fights.

Getting pumped for tonight. Imported Panamanian rum, fresh fruit, ice and a blender. Four potentially good fights in a row (thanks to DVR). I just hope nobody forgets and drops a spoiler for the other card in this thread.

Cintron vs Molina Round 1

First minute is a bit of a feeling out, Molina looking to find some range. He’s going to have to do something special to win this fight — I don’t think he has enough power to do anything to Kermit, so he’s going to have to thoroughly outbox him, and I think Kermit’s too good a boxer for that to happen, plus if anyone lands eye-catching shots, it’ll be Cintron. I know I “hate on” him, but I don’t think he sucks or nothin’.
Molina busier so far. Flicking his jab a lot, keeping everything moving. Cintron with a jab, now ducking low when Molina gets near him. Molina trying to put together combinations. Molina with a left hook to the body, Cintron lands a glancing blow up top.

Cintron vs Molina Round 2

Al Bernstein just said, “before the second Margarito fart.” That’s about right.
good right hand by Molina, but Cintron with a left hook and a right, and now we’re starting to get some action from both, with Molina leading it. Cintron with a nice counter left, short little shot. Molina trying to target the body with his jab as he comes in. Molina is giving Cintron a great opportunity to box at range, but Cintron isn’t taking advantage yet. Cintron jabbing now toward the end of the round, and it’s starting to work for him.

Cintron vs Molina Round 3

Cintron just looks a little rusty on offense so far. A bit tentative, a little slow. Molina still outworking him and without big shots, I think he’s doing enough outworking Cintron to hang in there at the least. Cintron’s jab looks sharp but isn’t landing much. Molina landing potshot rights and a left hook. good right from Molina. Cintron waiting too much. Just waiting too much.

Cintron vs Molina Round 4

Molina starting to take over really solidly in the first minute of this round. Cintron just isn’t diong a damn thing and is getting not just outworked, but clearly outfought at this point. Cintron can’t find his right hand at all. Molina bullies him into the corner and throws. He’s picking up some confidence, and the body work and the jabs are adding up. Right hand by Molina. If he had power, this would be looking really one-sided right now. I mean this round is all Molina.

Cintron vs Molina Round 5

Molina with a left hook to the body, then one upstairs. Cintron looks befuddled in there. Molina jabbing effectively, then back to the body. Right hand upstairs, and then one with as much mutsard as he can muster. Another right hand. Jabbing again. Cintron is landing absolutely nothing. Right hand from Cintron misses again. It’s slow and not getting there. Hey, there’s one that lands, but Molina goes back to the body, then gets him upstairs with a double jab and a right hand. big right by Molina and NOW HE’S WAILING ON CINTRON WITH UPPERCUTS! Man Cintron is in trouble in there. Molina is now flat-out dominating him. Cintron’s balance is bad and his nose is bleeding. He’s been hurt. Molina ends it throwing.

I wasn’t kidding, by the way. If Cintron got the scores in that fight I was going to watch the HBO main event.

381 punches for Cintron...
kinda hard to win a round throwing only 38 punches, esp. when you aren’t landing them
Oi, vey, that was a KO, wasn't it?

Good to see Areola fighting so often, it's really resurecting his career.
I wish more fighters would
It helps that he's taking no damage

Unintentional plank from that diude Bute was fighting. Wow...

Man, I have been pumped for Rios vs. Antillon for a long time. I’m way more amped for this fight than I was for Wlad vs. Haye…
Well, I guess I did kind of get sucked in to Wlad’s spectacular pre-entrance video montage. But that feeling didn’t last very long, and it turned out to be by far the best part of the fight.
Boxing writer: "Iran, what are you going to do when you retire?"
Iran Barkley: "Rob your house"
I don’t get that nervous feeling for fights like this that I get for Wlad vs Haye or the Pacquiao events or the Mayweather fights. I know I’m going to get something good, so I’m just happy and content. I was never bouncing around for a Vazquez vs Marquez fight either, if that makes sense.

I get that nervous feelings for some big fights too. It's not so much what I feel for this fight.
More like the feeling you get when your are about to open the bottle of your favorite kind of bourbon, one you know will deliver.

Yes, precisely. This is like buying a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle.

Acosta-Rios has kinda gotten lost as a FOTY candidate, but that was a great fight.

I never take these, “I’m going to retire………………” too seriously………….especially when they’re in there 20’s
That's one good/bad thing about boxing

Rios vs Antillon Round 2

Both guys just beating the hell out of each other. Rios with a charge, Antillon there to meet him. Nobody’s going anywhere. I mean this is bad intentions fighting. these guys are throwing everything hard. Antillon bleeding from the bridge of the nose. Nice combo by Rios. That’s where I think he has teh real advantage. Better combo puncher. Antillon with two left hooks. Antillon with a nice uppercut. Nice combo again by rios, three shots that push Antillon back a step. Antillon to the body, tearing up Rios, but Rios fires back on him. Now they jab — their jabs are PISSED OFF. Rios with a left hook. Just misses a big uppercut. Right to the body by Antillon. NICe right upstairs by Antillon. 1-2 from Rios. This is fucking vicious. Left hook to the body by antillon. Uppercut trade — AN UPPERCUT TRADE. Rios gets the better of it. Right by Rios, left hook by Rios. This is insane. Right by Antillon, then an uppercut, and then Rios to the body. Fucking hell. this is nasty as hel

Rios vs Antillon Round 3

Antillon comes out throwing hard, NBUT RIOS NAILS HIM AND DOWN GOES ANTILLON!!!! HE’S HURT! FIGHT WILL CONTINUE! RIOS GOING AT HIM! RIOS THROWING I’LL SAY IT GODDAMN IT PUNCHES IN BUNCHES!
Antillon needs to get his legs, and he played good defense there. Left hook by Rios, and another and ANOTHER! and Antillon is hurt! Rios all over him! antillon firing back when he can! UPPERCUT BY ANTILLON! ONE FROM RIOS! TEARING INTO EACH OTHER! Rios still tearing away. Antillon getting bashed in there, but hanging on. He’s really hurt. Rios looking to close. Rios with a left to the body, then one upstairs. Antillon throwing back. Rios just has too much power. Antillon low with a right, nobody even pauses. Nobody even fucking pauses.
I love this fight.
Uppercuts and a HUGE left hook from Rios BIG RIGHT AND DOWN GOES ANTILLON AGAIN!!!! MY GOD!
Antillon has nothing left. 30 seconds left in the round. Antillon trying to survive the round, and just might be able to do it. Just might. Antillon is in a bad way and the referee stops it with Antillon wobbling around the ring.
Brandon Rios TKO-3

Boxing writer: "Iran, what are you going to do when you retire?"

My observations:
1.Rios’ defense is better than it looks. He gets hit, sure, but for the most part, he keeps those gloves high. Also, he does small, effective things offensively that make him more than just a brawler.
2. Antillon’s defense is garbage. Just atrocious in my opinion.
3. Antillon is terribly cotton-mouthed already and I wonder if he should keep fighting for much longer—especially if he’s going to get hit like that.
4. Rios has, what seems to me, the frame to go up to 147 with relative ease. He may not be the monster at welter that he is at 135 though. He’s gigantic at his current weight class.
