Golden Boy heavyweight prospect Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (22-0-1, 16 KO) will be a featured part of the August 27 undercard in San Jose, the card topped by the 140-pound clash between Robert Guerrero and Marcos Maidana.
Ryan Maquiñana reports that Mitchell will face Chicagoland's Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KO). Mollo is a guy who comes to fight, but is intended to be simply a stepping stone for the still-developing Mitchell. The 31-year-old Mollo hasn't fought in a year and is 0-2-1 in his last three, losing to Andrew Golota and Jameel McCline in 2008, and then coming back in March 2010 to beat Billy Zumbrun and fight to a draw in August with Gary Gomez. Mollo is 6'1" and usually weighs in in the 220s, and has a little pop and a good chin. He's only been stopped once, by DaVarryl Williamson back in 2006. He's not a threat to really beat Mitchell in this fight, but that's how it works.
Mitchell is getting some hype thanks to his connections with Golden Boy and adviser Al Haymon, but is still a work in progress who is a good bit away from serious contention in the heavyweight division. He's being paced very nicely by his handlers, and this is just a next step. Though Mitchell is 29, he's a baby in the boxing game still, a converted college football player
There is no word on whether or not the fight will be televised.
