Video: Kimbo Slice Discusses Boxing Debut Victory
Kimbo Slice spoke with FightHub.tv about his pro boxing debut last Saturday, which was a 17-second knockout of a guy who isn't really a professional boxer other than the fact that he's been sanctioned to fight and lose twice at age 39. But despite criticisms, I think Kimbo as usual comes off as a likeable guy who isn't delusional about himself. He has Jared Shaw out there to be delusional for him, so Kimbo just stays pretty honest. Here's the video:
- "I can't give myself a good grade, because my movements was a little shady, and I just felt like I didn't really connect like I really wanted to. I still have a lot of learning to do in this business. I'm a baby, taking baby steps, and I've just got to take it one at a time."
- "It's like second nature for me. I'm comfortable here. I've found a home here."
- "I learn as I go on. And I leave it up to my managers and my matchmakers to figure out our next steps. I'm back to the gym next week. There's no time off this late in the game for me. ... I wanna fight within the next two or three weeks if I could."
Kimbo (1-0, 1 KO) will be fighting on October 15, says Jared Shaw -- and of course, Gary Shaw Productions is co-promoting with Golden Boy at the Staples Center for the Hopkins vs Dawson show. There is really no chance that Kimbo winds up on the PPV portion of that show, because frankly I don't think HBO would even entertain the idea of airing the fight, or even showing clips, but I suppose you never know. And the date isn't set in stone anyway, so we'll see.

This is a freak show and does little to enhance boxing's reputation. He is being fed
a buffet of walking dead. He is in it for the money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Of course he is in it for the money.. the guy has a family to feed and this is what Kimbo does – he fights. This is probably all he knows to make a decent amount of money NOW.
Watchin his interview he isn’t delusional about bein so big time boxer.. so he probably isn’t under the impression that he can enhance boxing. One thing his name does do is bring attention.. at the very least people will hear of him boxing check his boxing match out and hopefully research other boxers that were on the card. He is humble.. more power to him fo steppin into the ring.. that’s huge in itself.

This is a guy who never fought amatuer, and now he is fighting big bags.
If you want to pay to watch this, that’s great. Me, I’d rather watch Arreola or Sherman Williams. I’ll watch Slice in the cage, but not in the ring. Just as long as they don’t tout him as anyhthing more than what he is, I’m fine with him supporting himself and “his family.”

No, I doubt that they weill do this, but I hope they do this.

Yeah I hope they do, too, but being totally honest, it’s not my experience that this happens. If it did, the popularity of Mayweather and Pacquiao would have a greater impact on other fighters. Really, they have no impact. People tune in for them and nothing else, and it’s rare that anyone goes deeper than that. Those who do, that’s wonderful.

They’re probably older photos from his MMA days, but who knows?
