Oscar de la Hoya Wants Alfredo Angulo vs Vanes Martirosyan in December

Vanes Martirosyan has been involved in talks with Alfredo Angulo for a WBC 154-pound eliminator for a while now, and after Angulo's easy win on Saturday night in Mexico against Joseph Gomez, Martirosyan again stated his desire to fight Angulo soon.

Oscar de la Hoya responded for his new charge with this on Twitter:

Angulo did not only bark last night.he knocked out his apponent."perro angulo wants vanes next in december from Mexico. Bark!! Bark!! Vanes angulo is calling you. less than a minute ago via Twitterrific Favorite Retweet Reply

There are a couple of things to note here:

  1. Angulo's opponent was awful and folded on the first good shot that landed. If you don't believe me, then feel free to watch the replay, which you can find at ESPN3.com. The fight was nothing.
  2. Obviously, Golden Boy is holding out no hope of getting Angulo back in the United States by the end of the year. The good news is that Mexico isn't a bad place for the fight, and Martirosyan seems willing to travel.

It's a good fight that I hope happens, and Martirosyan responded, too, but with a twist:

A WBC eliminator would be to set up a challenger for Canelo Alvarez, but ... well, consider people realistic if they're skeptical about whether or not Golden Boy is going to put Angulo or Martirosyan in with Canelo any time soon.

A word of advice for Vanes: if you are calling someone out, you should probably spell their name correctly.

And I have to laugh at Vanes demanding a fight with Canelo from Oscar De la Hoya. Kind of don’t have any bargaining chips buddy…

I really want to like Vanes, but he’s just not that special inside the ring. I doubt he’ll beat Angulo and I’d give him very little chance against Alvarez. Vanes-Angulo should be a very good scrap though. I hope it comes off.

I like Vanes and don’t think he’s special at all in the ring.

I guess I feel the same way. I do like him as a person. I’d love to see him become a star but that just ain’t gonna happen.
