Here's some video from Top Rank of junior welterweight prospects Jose Benavidez Jr (12-0, 11 KO) and Mercito Gesta (22-0-1, 12 KO) sparring at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
This is just a brief clip, obviously, so there isn't much to read into, but I thought it was worth sharing anyway. Benavidez, 19, is one of my absolute favorite prospects, someone I think is a genuine, bona fide blue-chipper, and while I don't see the 23-year-old Gesta on that level, he's another guy definitely worth watching.
Edit: You can check out all of the sparring rounds at YouTube.
Another thing worth mentioning here is that it looks like Arizona just might become a more popular fight destination. Benavidez is a native, and another Arizona fighter, Jesus Gonzales, recently sold a very nice gate at the US Airway Center in Phoenix. Gesta is back in the ring on September 17, which will air on the Top Rank Live series (FSN), taking on Manuel Perez (16-6-1, 4 KO) at the BlueWater Resort & Casino in Parker, and Benavidez will be on the undercard.
